I know i should read this and yet part of me wants sonic youth to be that band that i DON'T knkw all the gossip about. I've read almost every bio and autobio from most of my favorite bands and those which take up the largest bulk of my music collection and yet not even one about sonic youth and i kind of like it that way. I get the rare chance for the music to be the only way i can know the artists..

About to finish it. It's really good. I find her childhood and younger years in California/New York really interesting. A lot more than what happened between her and Thurston. She really goes into detail about it.

So has anyone reached the part where members of this very gossip forum are quoted yet? :-)

I was about to ask (seeing that tshirt pic with book tour dates on the back of it) if anyone attended or recorded conversations about the book so far and had a look on youtube first. someone uploaded whole book interview from 24th, of Feb. New York one. well, I don't know if it is whole thing (it has 48 min.), haven't seen it yet.

^^ i had NO IDEA that she'd go through new mexico, so i didn't even bother looking before.

then when i saw that tshirt & i was in a mildly altered state which made me think i had missed it already. or are we having two march 1sts this year??

anyway, just now fully awake & caffeinated i realize it is today! but it's a very long drive to albuquerque for me, especially buried in the snow & mud as i am--i usually plan a whole daytrip when i go there. aghhhh. o well.

anyway-- WELCOME TO NEW MEXICO, KIM. have a green chile breakfast burrito with some piñon coffee!

That's the review I was waiting for and it delivers as much as the book.

i haven't had a chance to get to the book yet but i'll be left alone with it tomorrow and now i'm even more impatient.

some of my favorite turns of phrase there, if you don't mind me quoting you:

this mysterious figure who materializes onto the scene like some super-ambitious Dementor, attempting to ingratiate herself into Kim's life before moving on to not one, but two other members of SY

Prior to publication, click-bait articles Internet-wide suckered in the simples with Kim's passages concerning Courtney Love

The next time those demons, those enemies of the expressive soul come for my throat, I'll go for theirs. Cold red all over the page, everywhere.

i just wanted to add to my comments above i wanted to rep jenn but the thing wouldn't allow it

if someone could please do it on my behalf i would appreciate it

I love Kim and all that, but this felt like a celebrity biography regardless. As much as I love Sonic Youth I stopped seeing them as a force in underground music ever since Sonic Nurse came out. I loved Kim writing about her art background and dealings, even though the little art of hers I've seen means little to me. I appreciate the energy and enthusiasm, even though the art as such is not my thing. I don't remember exactly when I started thinking Thurston Moore was a lame, attention- seeking indie kid and he doesn't either. We're even so who cares.
