The intro to Sonic Youth's "Little Trouble Girl" and the intro to Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun"
The guitar parts in "This Is The One" by The Stone Roses and "Dreams" by The Cranberries. "Black Tambourine" and "Nausea" by Beck. |
how about Beck's "paper tiger" compared to Serge Gainsbourg's "melody"? too obvious?

![]() A few Mats-related ones: The Replacements' "Here Comes A Regular" / Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" Paul Westerberg's "My Dad" / Bob Dylan's "Positively 4th St." (not a coincidence at all, evidently; file it under, um, homage/tribute) Tommy Stinson's "Light Of Day" (right before the "you're so beautiful at night" verse) / The Flaming Lips' "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate" And of course there's "Gary's Got a Boner" / "Cat Scratch Fever", but they even credited Nugent on the Let It Be liner notes. |
The Jesus Lizard - Pop Song/QOTSA - First It Giveth

Oh, I hate Paul McCartney.

Those grunge kids Silverchair completely ripped off Nirvana's In Bloom. Same bass line and melody, pretty much the same song.
The Silverchair song is called "Roses" by the way. ~Jeremy~ |
Green Day totally ripped off themselves. One of their newest singles sounds like a slower version of Welcome to Paradise.
I've heard a lot of soundalike songs recently, but I can't think of any of them or the songs they sound like right now. You have no idea how much this irks me. |
The Fall's 'Athlete Cured and Spinal Tap's 'Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight'
|
How dare you. How bloody dare you.
|
How massively dare you correctly as well! You massive cunt.
|
Such as the case may be
I finally thought of some of the songs I couldn't think of in my previous post: Ted Nugent's "Strangehold"/Therapy?'s "Lunacy Booth" Jimi Hendrix's "Fire"/U2's "Get on Your Boots" Chicago's "Wishing You Were Here"/Hawkwind's "You Know You're Only Dreaming" |
Quote:
Bob Mould's Brasilia Crossed with Trenton and Gordon Lightfoot's Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and Frank Black's Saint Francis Dam Diaster |
astronomy by blue oyster cult
and astronomy by metallica similar title too |
Black eyed peas - Meet me halfway and Amusement Parks On Fire - Venus In Cancer
|
OK, a no-brainer:
David Bowie's "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" -> Morrissey's "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday" -> Spiritualized's "Come Together" |
Talking Heads - Mind / Noir Désir - Tostaky (the tortuous guitar riff)
|
Talking Heads' "Memories Can't Wait" -> Robyn Hitchcock's "Freeze".
The lines starting with "There's a..." ("party in my mind" -> "justice in this world"/"dead man in your heart"/"farmer in the clouds"). A direct reference, of course: I know who wrote the book of love It was an idiot! It was a fool! A slobbering fool with a speech defect and a... shakin' hand And he wrote my name! Next to yours! But it should have been David Byrne or somebody...! |
Collective Soul's "The World I Know"/Silversun Pickups' "Three Seed"
The Cure's "Disintegration"Counting Crows' "'Round Here" (the organ part) |
