so Dedication 4 sux. i'd recommend you to ignore it and get Gunplay's tape which came out the same day. dude is ignorant as fuck, but damn he goes hard. http://www.livemixtapes.com/mixtapes...601_snort.html

damn D4 does kind of suck. I mean it's not horrible, but it's kind of boring in that most of the beats are similar tempo and most of his subject matter is pretty much the same throughout the whole tape. The track with J. Cole is great though.

Wayne himself said rap is boring to him these days and he prefers sk8ing. sad.
i agree the beats are some generic ass trap shit. i just miss the soul sampled stuff. it's not coming back to Wayne or hip-hop again though. |

yeah it's weird, basically every track on D4 is about head or skating. It's just kind of upsetting to hear him dwindle down to such narrow content. I guess I'd be better with it if the beat selection was better. Think of the first two Dedications. I mean D2 is probably my fav mixtape ever, and so much of that is the beat selection. Not tired overused beats, but not crap either. There's diversity. I don't hate any of the instrumentals used on D4, but at the same time, like you said, mostly all same-sounding trap. Same tempo. Just low bass and a high synth doing not much. The track with Nikki Minaj was sounding good. The J Cole track is prob the best, but Wayne's verse is short (though easily the most exciting of his verses on the whole tape) and he even makes a point to say he doesn't even like the beat. :\ The outro dub-ish beat is nice, but it's just an outro. If he had rapped on that would have at least been more diverse. |
Weez seems completely detached from current hip-hop. i bet his manager was picking all the beats for him to rap over. likewise, i enjoyed that Cole track the most, but that beat IS a joke.
at least back in the day, he had that rare introspective track on every project. Georgia Bush is fkn brilliant. so are I Miss My Dawgz, Tie My Hands, Receipe, Something You Forgot, etc. that is my fav type of music he's ever done. he just doesn't care anymore. |

interesting. while i enjoy that kind of music as a guilty pleasure, i can't help but agree with his views. |

this should be number one, of all time. |

Madvillainy is great, but I still put Take Me To Your Leader above it. The first Vik Vaughn and Op Doomsday are both really close too. But whatever. Great Doom is great Doom. |
Born Like This has some of his best rapping ever. but yes.

dude developed a midlife crisis and started rapping over hard ass beats about getting high in the club and picking up with model chicks. best thing that's ever happened to him. she dancin like she fuckin |
Wiz Khalifa is garbage but all his collabs with Juicy (especially on his latest tape "Taylor Allderdice") are awesome.

good call. I'd say Born is highly underrated. Excellent album. I wanted more brand new beats. But whatever. It was a stellar LP. |
just a throwback, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjV7krmYobI
i miss that creativity. he was totally ridiculous at times, drugged out of his mind, but never boring. |
I miss when I first got into Wayne and he was putting out all these tapes and there'd be songs like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWz2b_AYN7c that would blow yr mind. He sounded so excited back then.
|
louder, why you sleeping on JJDOOM? It's dark yeah -- but dood, it's so refreshing to hear new Doom verses over new Doom beats. I'm really enjoying it.
