agreed! Probably one of the best new/old albums of the year (was it this year or 2008???) i don't think this qualifies as a reissue because i don't think this album was actually released in 1975, sorta shelved until some-awesome-one discovered it...

Antagon 11.12.2009 12:31 PM

kierkegaarden 11.14.2009 01:16 AM

i'm leaving out a few, probably

drunkdriver - knife day 7"
screen vinyl image - interceptors
zola jesus - new amsterdam (if only for 'nativity')
the goslings - occasion
clockcleaner - ready to fight
kazuki tomokawa - inakamono no kara genki
polvo - in prism

still don't know if i like-
cold cave - cremations
cormega - born and raised
soap&skin - lovetune for vacuum

atsonicpark 11.14.2009 01:49 AM

"Occasion" was 2008.

I wish I had some more straight-up electronic/D'N'B/IDM/etc stuff from this year.

hell

not 2009, but have you heard Xinlisupreme?

PAULYBEE2656 11.14.2009 01:04 PM

atsonicpark 11.14.2009 02:30 PM

yeah Xinlisupreme are pretty nuts, been into 'em for a while.

ni'k 11.14.2009 08:10 PM

its been a weak year. 07 and 08 were amazing.

the caretaker and sa ra are excellent, dont think they've been mentioned yet. some good ferraro stuff, inca ore of course, dum dum girls/tv ghost.

up till 2010 ill be going backwards again and looking for things i missed in the past. something i refused to even consider in 08 because there was so much to keep up with.

ni'k 11.14.2009 08:25 PM

oh and obviously oneohtrix point never did some of the best stuff of the year. i think there is something being released today thats a compendium of 3 of their releases?

Onani Nic 11.14.2009 09:03 PM

A few I've really dug....

THE UV RACE - s/t LP & Malaria 7"
The Intellegence - Fake Surfers
Condominium - Barricade 7"
Lakes - Tray of Fire 7"
The Factorymen - The F-Men LP

Ah! I didn't know Drunkdriver had another 7" out. Condominium and Anals are great! There is so much good shit coming out of America.

I still think TV Ghost have yet to make a record that truly captures the BEASTLY live band they are. Atomic Rain 7" comes close. I don't want to make facile Birthday Party comparisons, but the frontman is seriously channeling some spastic early Nick Cave shit. And they're all youngins, so they'll have time to hone their sound.

I'm not a fan but I know half this board is

Agreed x 2

chairman of the bored 11.28.2009 05:44 PM

i couldn't get through two songs of that animal collective ep...either i'm just not in the mood or it's totally shitty

atsonicpark 11.28.2009 08:19 PM

Yeah, they suck.

davenotdead 11.28.2009 08:38 PM

hey adam, i just got to interview Eric Copeland through email.

sry i forgot to ask him why he sucks

atsonicpark 11.28.2009 08:47 PM

He doesn't suck.

I put on some Dice and find a lot of their stuff enjoyable in the right setting, absolutely hated the new one though. I think they've equally made some of the coolest stuff I've ever heard and the worst shit ever. So all in all, I guess I just find them decent, but I'm glad they're experimenting.

Marolo 12.02.2009 02:00 PM

Not sure if it's been mentioned but my favourite was Omar Souleyman: Dabke 2020: Folk and Pop Sounds of Syria on the Sublime Frequencies label

What is amazing to me is how many groups out there are recording music these days. Back when I first started to buy music in the sixties all there was, was vinyl so you had to hope you caught the ear of some music guy and then he went to his label then they recorded your stuff. Today anybody can publish their stuff put it out on the web and viola have a career in music. If you're good somebody will spread the word for you.

That list is really good. Aside from Merriweather and Repo, what are some other bad albums on there?

Derek 12.25.2009 01:01 PM

Most people would probably disagree with me but I hate that Dirty Projectors album.

And I dislike The xx...

At least they had Basinski but I thought they would have him higher than that... weird.

atsonicpark 12.25.2009 01:31 PM

Have no idea what "the XX" is, sounds like a joke band.

Derek 12.25.2009 02:36 PM

It's some boring "indie" band things like the NME have been pushing... surprised to see The Wire is so into it.

PAULYBEE2656 12.28.2009 06:33 AM

the xx...awful album possibly the worst thing ive ever witnessed live as well.... terrible....
