This cover tells you a lot about what PE was about

when I pull out the vinyl this one looks awesome.

by the way h8kurdt, "stereotypes about rap music"? i'm not sure what you mean?? pretty sure Kendrick was going for a Django Unchained type cover.
Kendrick is supposedly the shirtless dude there who's holding a white baby, and the people around him are his friends from Compton. i think that's a pretty cool cover to be honest. |
![]() wow! the boy is all grown up now huh.. finally not looking like a little dork. |

Figured I'd get pulled up on it. NEVERMIND! Just my opinion. When I saw him last year he looked like he'd grown up a hell of a lot. His stage presence on such a massive stage as it was, was pretty incredible. Something that, I think, takes a hell of a lot of years to build up and he's got it already. |
yeah man, have you heard "Never Catch Me" off the FlyLo album that came out last year? that's easily one of his best performances ever in my opinion, that song makes me wanna cry.. on Good Kid he was already the best rapper in the world, now he's pretty much a God.
i sound like a little fanboy, but seriously.. i'm proud to say i've been rooting for him from the start, even before Section 80 dropped i already knew he was destined to be the greatest living MC. |

Yeah man, my jaw drops every time I listen to that. I've been watching it with the video a lot recently which is just perfect. Check it out if you haven't |

i still can't believe we're about to get a bunch of new Kendrick x FlyLo collabs in less than two weeks. FlyLo already confirmed pretty much what i've been thinking this whole time on Twitter: https://twitter.com/flyinglotus/stat...91269267320834 |

Ok, I love "The Blacker the Berry" ... A lot. Listening to the song is actually making me feel pretty awesome about that album cover after all. Some seriously powerful topics and messages in that song. Gives the album more of a guerrilla feel... I hope most of the record is angry and scathing like "TBTB." So... I kinda hope "i" is the only "i-like" song around.
Also, can't get enough of "All Day" and "Wolves." Listening to all the guest bits Ye's throwing into these recent songs, is it possible that So Help Me God is going to end up being like a bizarre second act to MBDTF, just as Yeezus was described by many as being the antithesis, or equal opposite of 808's & Heartbreak? All Day certainly had the maximalist Yeezy feel. 808's was minimal and stark, but it had instrumental/sonic themes and it felt self-contained. Yeezus was like an application of the minimalist makeover to the buzzsaw bombast of MBDTF and WTT, but the delivery and the product were closer to 808's than either of those other albums. It was like 808&HB's evil twin. Could So Help Me God be MBDTF's ... Uhh... GOOD twin? (No pun was really intended until I realized it was gonna happen, at which point I smiled and decided to let it happen anyway, so saying "no pun intended" would be a lie.) Curiouser... |

I agree that Takes A Nation is superior. Although I'm really the odd man out as Apocalypse 91 is my fav PE record. Prob just nostalgia. But I love that album hard. It Takes A Nation is way up there tho. |
Ah come on NR...
G'Death is just copying a bunch of my old posts and re-posting them word for word. He thinks I'm a dumb asshole, and this is just his extremely inefficient way of publicly telling me so. |
Who can recommend me some bouncy 90's shit like Hammer's It's All Good, Throw Ya Gunz by Onyx, or Jump by Kriss Kross? This is my favorite kind of hip-hop. Shit you can dance 2.
|
sev: I'm confused.
DrEug: What? How you gonna lump Onyx w/ Hammer & Kriss Kross? |

Onyx may be more aggressive and angry but Bacdafucup is a total party banger. Quote:
This Coolio track is great, exactly the sort of thing I was loooking for. Chief Rocka is cool too. More like a chill out and smoke song but yeah. I'm feelin it. THe others I know already, even saw Naughty by Nature live once, but thank you! Good stuff louder! :) Quote:
Yup I know all 'bout this shit too. Well not all about, but lol I know enough. Saw Warren G live once too. Thanks guys! |
noise, recommend me some 80's/90's party hip-hop.
I know you got the hookup. |

Right so a friend of mine has asked for a non-misogynist/no 'nigga-every-5 -seconds rap compilation. She said whenever she hears that stuff it just leaves her cold.
This is what I have so far- Soliloquy of Chaos-Gang Starr Angel Duster-Run The Jewels Ok-Beastie Boys Everybody's Something-Chance The Rapper Torture-Danny Brown Cold World-GZA It Was A Good Day-Ice Cube The World Is Yours-Nas Broken Again-Pharoahe Monch RayGun-Ghostface Killah Respiration-Black Star Some may seem obvious, some less so. But bear in mind she knows NOTHING about rap in general. Any other recommendations? |

Don't be. Genteel Death is just copying my old posts, and posting them as his own without any explanation. Because of he massive amount of explanation needed, it's been a wholly ineffective form of harassment. Weird guy. |

Dude, Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody is top notch. I love that song. Digital Underground featuring Pac? That's wild. Skee-lo is someone I'd never heard of before but this song sounds oddly familiar. Fantastic Voyage is, of course, another classic. Good stuff, never heard that Fresh Prince jam either, I only had I'm the Rapper, He's the DJ on cassette. Thank you. Quote:
Oh yeah? Sweet! I bet they were cheap too lol. Morty's Theme is such an underrated track, even amongst RLP fans. I honestly think it's one of his best songs. Suspended Animation is a really weird album. All the Time, and You Don't Luv Me are easily my two favorites. There's way too many songs though, and a lot of them feel like filler, but the production overall is bizarre. Strong example of his acid rap concept. Not something I'd play from front to back anymore though. Not enough time. His shit after Suspended Animation got even weirder, and honestly a little depressing. A lot of his songs are just named after obscure drugs now. Still there are some hidden gems throughout his more current releases and thankfully Natas is back together! But yeah, I've told ya a million times before - find Closed Casket. Easily Esham's best, and I've heard 'em all. Also, have you by any chance heard this yet: ![]() ??? Oh my god, do I love it. |
what a great album.

Am I the first one out of bed today?
KENDRICK LAMAR'S TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY AVAILABLE 1 WEEK EARLY ON ITUNES! ... It's true. I had some trouble accessing the actual download link on my computer, but logging out and back in seemed to do the trick. Just pre-order the album and watch it download in full... Surprise! I guess Spotify is streaming the album now also, for those of you who aren't yet fully sold on K.L. If that's the case, do yourself a solid and check the album out (looking at SFAD). As for the rest of you, I expect that spending the $14.99 on legit early access to the album will be a no-brainer. Louder and NR: you guys better let me know when you have the record. I'm pissing myself here, waiting for someone to "dish" about it with. Don't let me down. I'm staying quiet until I have someone to talk to about this beast. Biggest hip-hop release since Yeezus. This is kind of an historic occasion. |
I will be listening to it... like 7 hrs from now.
|
Nevermind, no Kanye leak. Not yet.
Today is Kendrick's day. :) |
Whoever said that Joey Badass' album was contender for album of the year just got quiet.
I'm loving the jazz feel to the samples. I suspect working with Flying Lotus has had a massive influence on that. However the track 'u' is just out there. I've no idea who it's aimed at, but man, it hits pretty hard. I do wonder if there'll be much replay worth with the song though. I think the worst thing anyone can do is go in thinking this is going to be a party album. He's past that. King Kunta is the closest you'll get to a 'party track' I guess, but otherwise the feel is pretty dark. All in all I'm loving it. Your move, Kanye... |
