I'm afraid I'm pregnant. Since a couple of weeks I have this enormous craving for pickles ...

Severian 05.23.2018 08:15 PM

I work 69-70 hours a week and somehow my company isn’t paying for the hours in excess of 40 that the Department of Labor requires for salaries workers who make less than $50k. Been trying to get an answer about WHY for weeks (is the company exempt? Am I a “creative professional” because I sometimes write editorials and design publications? Or are they just boning me?!)

Couldn’t make less sense if it was a ducking Drake lyric.

Pickles are readily available in The Marketplace.

time to get an attorney dawg.

ilduclo 05.24.2018 08:44 AM

Nope, totally legal under US labor laws. Obama had a change policy going to take place regarding overtime pay for the lesser paid “admin and management”, who are really just workers with a title, eg McDonalds assistant managers, but that was killed by Trump.

Video of the incident obtained by Denver7 shows a man alleged to be the FBI agent dancing while surrounded by onlookers and then executing a backflip. During the flip, the gun appears to fly out of the man’s holster. The man in the video jumps to pick up the firearm and appears to fire the gun in the process. The man puts the gun back away in the back of his pants and holds up his hands as onlookers appear shocked and scared.
“When the agent retrieved his handgun, an unintended discharge occurred,” the release read. The agent was taken to Denver police headquarters and was released to an FBI supervisor.

That last job was PR, man. I’m not sure I’m ready to go to the dark side. Not yet.

Looking at communications jobs at colleges and universities, right now. It would be technically PR still, but some schools, as I’m sure you know, have some pretty good alumni and faculty publications that explore the goings-on in different departments. Having a background in academia might help, especially since I pretty much know I never want to be a full-on academic. Shit’s toxic, like House of Cards. But writing for and about an academic institution? I could get on board with that.
Anyway it’s what my father did after 25 years in the daily newspaper grind, and he got a nice salary increase, better benefits, etc.

Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s Sunday, and I’ve been working for seven days straight, so ... obviously I need to get to work.

Severian 06.03.2018 10:30 AM

I’m having a lot of stomach problems lately.

Anyone ever feel like they’re going to have diarrhea that never comes? Just regular BMs that feel unsatisfactory and fail to relieve the fiery, roiling turmoil in your guts?

pr is pr is pr but yeah who you work for makes a difference. hitting up alumni for donations and prospective victims for recruitment is not so satanic. there are also many “causes” some of which might be sympathetic to you.

i’d only be wary of joining a nonprofit on the verge of a recession, as we have a heated up economy and labor shortages so the 10 year business cycle is about done at this point. does not necessarily have to be a huge one but usually donations take a haircut. then again in such circumstances colleges might redouble their fundraising efforts. don’t know. what’s a recession-proof business?

anyway, best wishes yeah.

don’t mean to freak you but i’d say it’s weird. take a couple hours off your workday & go get a checkup. bloodwork + pipe inspection + shitsamples maybe. you don’t have irish ancestry do you?

fast food is garbage. you need to eat like a 35 year old, which means: healthier.

i’ve got recipes. i’m lazy too so... fucking easy.

but get yr pipes checked yeah. mario gotta look at that plumbing.

It's very hard to find Radiohead songs on YouTube. They seem very vigilant about taking them down as soon as possible.

well the irish have a propensity for celiac desease due to lack of evolutionary pressure towards grain consumption. and celiac can appear at different stages of life and for different reasons (eg stress, lol).

thing is celiac tends to cause obesity not weight loss? i dont think it’s well understood... not by me anyway ha ha ha.

but the weight loss and gut upset dont have to be due to a common factor, though they could be.

off the top of my head— you could have celiac and be hyperthyroid. or maybe you’re just constipated and malnourished due to poor choices? or maybe you got parasites at a taco truck. like i said, not a doctor, but why not get checked and make sure you’re well before seeking a better diet. i mean you can do both but if you have celiac for example it would be very specific dietary changes instead of trying to guess what’s good.. there are sooo many options, i’d go for a professional examination + labs instead of the internet and wild speculation.

eta: i like internists better than gp’s but anybody who could order your labs would be a great start.

!@#$%! 06.05.2018 03:49 PM

gin & tonic season just started for me

HELLO BEEFEATER!

unfortunately diet tonics are all i can handle right now, but schweppes and canada dry are both cheap and pretty tasty. schewppes is better and more quinine-bitter, canada dry is more like a 7-up but not bad, just easier for beginners i suppose.

anyway it’s good!

last time I had like a stomach flu I went to the doctor and she told me her best recipe was to drink Coke and eat Chips. You might respond "huh? what?" and that's exactly what I did :-) and I stuck with my regular medicine for flu: freshly made chicken soup!

what numbers said: eat healthy, and check what you eat. Maybe you've gotten an food allergy?

already had 15g this morning while posting but going out into the morning glare did it better

anyway that song: i posted it for the lyrics. but it’s also not a bad song for what it is. plus other stuff i forget now that im hungry but YES.

6 fried eggs with tomacco and chipotle sauce should do it

!@#$%! 06.13.2018 10:38 AM

chipotle is smoked jalapeño pepper. you know the jalapeño? it’s a... google it.

tabasco actually makes a chipotle sauce that is great. it’s their best sauce. tastes fantastic.

at 7g per cup, 15g is just a double strength. i don’t drink 16oz though, an “official” cup of coffee is 4-5 oz (depending on continent), so i do 10oz, even though people now drink 20 ouncers or even larger.

FRIED EGGS GOOD.

!@#$%! 06.13.2018 11:30 AM

I’ve had to report on three overdoses in the past four weeks. Lethal ones. In a small town. Horrifying. No clue what the answer is.

cannabis legalization probably for the pain cases. particularly cannabidiol which is not even mind altering. don’t know for the anxiety or other issues.

but yeah it’s horrifying. i used to be so crazy about this girl, and seeing the gruesome deterioration in recent years was heartbreaking. heart fucking breaking.

the ravages of time are one thing— this... was something else completely. a stroke would have been more benevolent.

We’re looking at cannabis in my district, and obviously full recreational use is going to be on dozens of November ballots — but recently there was a car fatality wherein the deceased had massive amounts of THC in his system and apparently no other intoxicants. It’s bejng used as political leverage against full recreational marijuana approval. (LOL, like alcohol doesn’t cause fatal automobile accidents every day!)

Also, speaking as someone who has personally smoked a fuckassload of weed and driven on countless occasions in my youth, I am certain it’s safer than driving drunk by leaps and bounds. I also don’t know that I even believe the police when they say THC was the only substance in the driver’s system... for an accident like that, I smell a Xanax or something. I’m not the on the police beat, so it’s someone else’s stink to investigate.

Anyway, yes. I agree. I personally take low dose painand anxiety medications and it’s possible to do it without abuse if you’re just totally open with your doctor and you are genuinely not interested in getting wasted. But that requires really good, attentive doctors and probably some personal vigilance that apparently many people simply don’t have. Of course, dependency is always an issue.

Three fatal ODs in as many weeks. I have lived in large cities where those numbers be shocking (with or without over/underreporting) so the fact that it’s happening in a small rural town is unfathomable.

dirty bunny 07.05.2018 11:40 PM

Just got a new pair of headphones/ headset/ dealie. You know the kind that go over your ears. HOLY MOLEY the sound! Everything sounds so much better than the tinny little earbuds I had to deal with for months.

!@#$%! 07.06.2018 07:34 PM

sorry, wrong thread

ps- i got some bluetooth marshall headphones that are pretty good! a bit small and a bit tight for my large head but great sound and good audio pickup for calls— comes also with wire for backup but lacks control feedback in that mode

they’ve been liquidating old stock and selling at 1/2 price

Fuck man! How's the weather on your end of the world? It's a bloody everlasting heat wave over here, the driest so far since 1976.
Later in the week it will be max 37 Celcius. I know that's peanuts for e.g. US people in like Arizona / Texas. But still, we here are wussies when it gets warm :)

And we don't have airco in the house.

how he does it: turning up the ac

here in the desert we got swamp coolers which are a lot more economical than refrigerated air, but they do consume water (as they’re evaporative coolers). air heat is transferred into water evaporation by blowing through a wet filter, you get cool air on the other side. pretty cool actually.

those wont work in houston though. water doesn’t have anywhere to evaporate at surrounding temps in 100% humidity. so, crank the ac.
