I wasn't joking, I've been listening to every Sonic Youth show I have in chronological order. I'm now listening to their last show: Live @ SWU Festival, São Paulo, Brazil, 14-11-2011.

It's taken me just over 3 months and I've listented to over 500 of their shows from 1981-2011. I didn't keep a diary but I did mention some of the more interesting shows/songs in this thread during that time.... it's been fun but I'm sad to hear this last show again...

Sonic Life.

Fuck...now you're making me sad.

Did you like the Air Force? I haven't thoroughly enjoyed any of their outputs since Fabulous Muscles but each one has had some really good tracks. Hi and Honey Suckle are both great off the new one and I liked this one better than the Air Force.

Yeah, as a Jamie Stewart fan boy, Knife Play and A Promise are two of my favorite albums ever and Life and Live were really great. The first Former Ghosts album was really fucking great as well as Ten in the Swear Jar and IBOPA's discography. And that "hortur" song he helped picastro with is completely perfect.

Also, R. Kelly is dat nigga.

last year was quite underwhelming for me in terms of new mindblowing music tbh.
but then that might've been my fault, spending much time outdoors & having such a good time kinda resulted in me just listening to tons of poppy shit.
haven't had the time to explore beautiful noisy sounds like i used to in the past. but now i'm going back.

i will have to check out everything you've mentioned. like Knife Play & A Promise so much. thanks!

and Kellz is indeed the definition of awesome.

SpaceCadetHayden 01.26.2012 11:55 AM

Fleurs is the album by Former Ghosts its Nika from Zola Jesus, Nathan from This Song Is A Mess and Jamie. Its like the panic-pop super group.

The new Perfume Genius is really just a pop album buts its super tragic and I liked the direction he went with this one. Last year was somewhat underwhelming for me as well. I really loved Grouper, Ricky Eat Acid, Derek and Alvarius B's outputs. Prurient's Time Arrow EP was fucking great. This year is already proving to be pretty good, though. New Teen Suicide, Perfume Genius, Grimes, Cloud Nothings, and lots more to come.

louder 01.26.2012 12:01 PM

Grouper is the shit, i still remember listening to "Dragging a Deer.." during all winter of 2009.
