My updates in here are rather sporadical because I'm not happy with most image hosting sites.

And tracking down actually decent embeddable links from sites I upload my pictures to is kind of a pain in the ass.
Here's a way more comprehensive picture of what I've been up to photographically in the last few years, if anyone's interested.

Gotta be said this forum could do with an update for sure. Well in another universe it's happening at least.

This might be of interest to Symbols, or any other architecture fan on here I'm not aware of. Anyway, this Summer I kind of had this unofficial project I decided to dub "Open Doors Of Vienna". In short: Walking through Vienna in Summer, you'll find many entrances to residential buildings wide open. It's been a pleasure of mine to just take a look and marvel at the architecture when I get the chance to for many years. But only now I decided to actively make it into some sort of project. So I took my newest analogue camera and made it my objective to find as many of those gems as possible. Those are some of the results. Mostly film, because I like the combination of old buildings and 35mm.

Some recent 35mm-stuff. Been experimenting with Fuji Pro 400H. Early to mid-September was still pretty sunny, fortunately.

A picture I took of my late grandfather in September 2010.

He was a cheerful man and it was a joy to to spend time with him.

I think I might have inherited my love for cats from him.

Hey y'all. I just bought a Sony A6400 camera. It's actually for my wife for her 40th birthday but I guess it's a toy for me too, haha.

So I was wondering: what lens would you recommend to buy? She loves to shoot portraits of our little baby, so I guess some camera with low aperture (f1.8 maybe) and good bokeh quality would be preferred?

Missing the most important thing: budget?

!@#$%! 03.03.2021 05:38 PM

for that mount, im looking right now at the

Sony - FE 50mm F1.8 Standard Lens (SEL50F18F), Black

which is equivalent to a 75mm full frame.... just $168? that's a great price for a fast lens. kinda insane actually?

almost right, but the problem is that for the 6000-6600 alpha mirrorless cameras you can't mount the 'FE' lenses, but only the 'E' types.
there's an equivalent of what you posted for E mount, which costs around 300 EUR. I'm probably going to go for that one.

yes, yes, all Slavic languages are somehow very similar to each other.

!@#$%! 03.09.2021 10:08 AM

yeah what language gets called what is often... politics

eg spanish portuguese galician catalonian italian (in all local variations) french occitan romanian romansh etc... are all dialects of vulgar latin... minus the roman emperor.

the germanics i think all understand each other too, more or less. might require some adult beverages. :D

greenlight 03.10.2021 04:11 PM

btw Chernobyl: The city name comes from a combination of chornyi (чорний, black) and byllia (билля, grass blades or stalks); hence it literally means black grass or black stalks. It is also the Ukrainian word for mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), which is "chornobyl". -- though no parts of mugwort or wormwood are black.

there's also *cough cough* this deeply scary guy (been watching that neil gaiman show lately)

So, Austria's on lockdown. But people can take recreational walks. Knowing this, I thought now is the time to up my camera game. So I got myself a used (but in immaculate condition) Canon Eos 40D. Four days in, and I can already tell this was a great decision. The saturation and the resolution of this baby are so much more satisfying than what my former model (a 700D or Rebel T5i) could conjure up. I have much less of an urge to color-correct my pictures in post or work with contrasts/gradation curves. The in-camera features cater much more to my aesthetic needs. The pictures turn out just as moody, smooth and saturated as I want them to. The resolution is a massive step-up too. At the same time, it's not too in-your-face, it's an older model after all. Just the way I like it. Here are a few snaps from the last few days.
