Noriko's Dinner Table -
Bit disappointed with this, maybe my expectations were too high after reading about it.I've not seen Suicide Club yet either, that might be abit better?. It started off really good, but then sorta lost it..

atsonicpark 11.30.2008 05:16 PM

Suicide Club is awesome.

Dinner Table looks cool but it's like 2 1/2 hours long isn't it? Meh.

That director is pretty interesting. I liked Strange Circus by him. Hair Extensions was okay too.

noisereductions 11.30.2008 05:24 PM

Suicide Club made me want to throw up.

Glad to hear you made it to QoS. I was disappointed. I was expecting another Casino Royale. But it was still fun--and still far, far better than anything pre-Casino. We can only hope they learn from this mistake and do better next time around.

atsonicpark 11.30.2008 06:10 PM

Suicide Club was half overblown absurdist comedy and half serious social study.

8/10

6/10

noisereductions 12.01.2008 08:55 AM

I didnt think people actually liked James Bond movies. I mean, I know that the movies are like "blockbusters" and that "people" go see them. But I never really knew anyone in real life that gave a crap that a new James Bond movie was coming out.

noisereductions 12.01.2008 08:57 AM

4/10... amusing as a semi-humorous/semi-dramatic Christmas flick. But the ending was a cop-out.

The Bond franchise was given new life with Casino Royale, where for the first time, in my opinion, the moviemakers got it right.

I've enjoyed--not loved--Bond movies ever since seeing Thunderball as a 12-year-old kid, but even then I thought they were a bit hokey. They've only been a little bit of escapist fun. But the new Craig Bond is absolutely superb and something to look forward to. I had been looking forward to Quantum ever since seeing Casino, and I've watched Casino probably more times than I've watched any other movie. I'm truly captivated by it--it is, in my mind, the best true spy movie made, aside from perhaps The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.

Also, don't be such a snob. There are all kinds of movies for all kinds of reasons.

I've enjoyed the last 2 movies. QoS was pretty good, but not great. I loved Casino Royale. The newer Bond films with Daniel Craig are a lot grittier and, dare I say, realistic. I could never get into any of the other Bond movies.

gmku 12.01.2008 09:03 AM

Yeah, they're definitely grittier and, as much as a spy movie can be, more "real" feeling. That's much of what I love about the new direction the Bond movies are taking. Also, no big gadgets, no mad scientists.

atsonicpark 12.01.2008 09:06 AM

Haha, noisereductions. I'm going to try to rep you. There are some good Bond movies. Most of them are pretty much identical though. Haven't seen the last 2.

Derek 12.01.2008 09:14 AM

anywhere I can watch The Isle/Seom online? don't have the funds to buy it right now

I wasn't being a snob, at all. I was just stating I didn't realize that people were really into James Bond. I always figured it was just a lot of marketing hype. Jeez, man I just said I watched The f'ing Holiday. There's no way I'm any sort of film snob. haha.

Derek 12.01.2008 09:18 AM

I know loads of people who really like James Bond. I really don't know why.

afterthefact 12.01.2008 09:24 AM

I have an uncle (ex-uncle, actually) who is obsessed with Bond. OBSESSED. Not only does he act like James Bond and watch the movies all the time, but he actually has pictures of the different Bonds (although more Pierce Brosnan than the others) glued around his mirror in his bathroom. He also talks about how he wants to invest in gold.

He's a little out of his mind.

atsonicpark 12.01.2008 09:28 AM

No idea, derek. http://www.xomba.com/watch_korean_mo...nline_for_free is all I found but who knows if that actually works.

no?

Rob Instigator 12.01.2008 03:12 PM

watched this with g/f.
she had never seen it.

cute movie. 7.5/10
lots of good hispanic jokes, like when the spy kids are talking to their estranged uncle Machete, and he says, "yeah, never around, don't know where he is half the time, mysterious disappearances....I think we all have uncles like that." ha ha! TRUE!!!!!

!@#$%! 12.01.2008 03:19 PM

the toxic avenger!

one thing often doesn't get told about these supposedly "trash" troma movies is that they are often political & subversive. poultrygeist was such a sendup of everything...

also, the last 2 of rohmer's "moral tales"-- perfection:

not in these shitty releases however but in the criterion versions-- fucking perfection. i love criterion.

noisereductions 12.01.2008 03:27 PM

Toxic Avenger rules.

I'm not quite that obsessed. Obsessed, perhaps, but not nuts.

viewtiful_alan 12.01.2008 04:26 PM

Every year my extended family watches scarface on thanksgiving, apparently this goes way back and they had it on beta... yeah I don't know
But that's what I watched.
9/10

The "Push it to the limit" montage almsot kills my enjoyment of that movie everytime.

tw2113 12.02.2008 02:20 AM

Supervixens. I'm downloading more from Russ Meyer as we speak

nicfit 12.02.2008 02:28 AM

tonight I'll watch "Botched". Should be fun. If it's NOT, please advise, I don't want to waste 90 mins. Keep in mind a trashy kind of flick is ok with me, at this present time.

atsonicpark 12.02.2008 02:28 AM

10/10.

noisereductions 12.02.2008 08:27 AM

This might lose me some respect or something, but I've always thought that Scarface is a bad movie. I think the acting and script are awful. Just me?

Scarface is brilliant. Best remake ever. Brian DePalma is in my top 3 directors for sure.

Derek 12.02.2008 10:45 AM

Scarface is crap... I'm interested in the director's other movies though.

It's a remake? I didnt even know that. I've never really read anything about or anything. I like other DePalma films.

Derek 12.02.2008 10:55 AM

It's like a remake from a 1930s film I think.
