Cosloy had nothing to do with Big Black not getting royalties...He worked at Homestead but, from what I've read, was not responsible for the shady payment schedule, or lack thereof...

And I don't think his point was about having more integrity then anyone on this board (or otherwise)...He was just comically riffing on the stupidity of most MB poster speculation...

And, IMHO, most of the speculation on this board is kind of stupid...

How does anyone here know if Bardo Pond were "dropped", or Solex was "dropped" or not?

For that matter, why assume that just because a band leaves a label there is automatically some shady behind-the-scenes dirt at play...

Maybe Bardo Pond left amicably...or maybe Matador, after footing the bill for four albums, plus some promotion, decided that it was more prudent to put their resources towards another up-and-coming band...

And, since everyone is tossing out their opinions about Matador and their value as a label, here's mine:

I've always been impressed with the roster of artists they sign and release.
A number of my favorite records have come out under the matador banner and I think their current roster is impressive in it's diversity.

Current Matador Bands that I'm enjoying:
Brightblack Morning Light, Fucked Up, New Pornos, Malk/Jicks, MOB, Lav. Diamond, Shearwater, Yo La, Mogwai...

Seriously, that label has released music by so many great bands that Matador (along with Sub Pop and Merge) are really the standard bearers for independent rock music.

All you haters and pretentious snobs who listen to obscure, transgressive noise and hate any label who dares to venture out of the aggressive teenage boy cave can have fun living in the shadows and jerking off onto your limited edition CD-Rs.
