Showing: Thu 22nd Nov
This unique solo-show is a multi-media revelation of the human voice and its unimaginable intensity. Ten years research into human body movement, multi-sensory perception environments and digital processing has brought about this show performed by Julie Wilson-Bokowiec. An unmissable experience 7.45pm Theatre Tickets £8 (£6 conc) Buy tickets online HERE After appearing in venues all over Europe as well as the US and Canada, Bodycoder - Voice is coming to Watermans Bodycoder - Voice is part of an ongoing experiment in connecting body movements with sound, intertwining the sensual with the sonic. The experiments render the voice multidimensional and examine how the natural movement vocabulary of the body can become an expressive medium and create and manipulate sound. Liberated from physical and culturally predefined boundaries, the becomes multidimensional. A ritualistic entoning of the possibilities of voice; both the real and the mythical, the implicit and the virtual, both the human and the inhuman... a voice distinctly transgendered within the interactive medium, an originality that is defined only by its own transmutations. How it works A array of sensors worn on the performer's body translate their movements into data which is sent to a computer. This data is used to process the live voice of the performer. Everything heard is initiated live and originates from the acoustic voice and the performer's movements so the performer retains complete control over the output. The performer generates, affects and manipulates all aspects of the show. The artists Mark Bokowiec (Composer, electronics and software Designer) Mark is the manager of the electro-acoustic music studios at the University of Huddersfield and lectures in interactive performance and composition. |

The Forum Einsturzende Neubauten ![]() TIDAL CONCERTS PRESENTS GORGOROTH PLUS VERY SPECIAL GUESTS ENTHRONED When we talk about Black Metal in its traditional and old school way, we may go back for one decade, when especially in Norway a new scene started to form and develop. It was the time when Burzum, Darkthrone, Mayhem and Immortal came up with their first records and created a completely new feeling about Black Metal, inspired by legendary bands such as Venom, Celtic Frost and Bathory. At around the same time, another unique, raw and aggressive band was formed under the Tolkien inspired band name Gorgoroth. Like in "Lord Of The Rings"; Gorgoroth stands for a complete dark and unholy place. The band never compromised and followed their own way since their foundation in 1992.... More Time: 7.00pm Admission: £12.00 in advance. If you buy your tickets online and chose to pick them up from the venue they are only available once the doors open for that particular show. MONDAY 26th NOVEMBER
![]() MAIN HALL: 93 LIVE & EAT YOUR OWN EARS PRESENTS: SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE + MICK FLOWER + DONOVAN QUINN 7:00PM - 11:00PM £10 IN ADVANCE SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE is the primary musical project of guitarist Ben Chasny. Chasny's music is largely guitar-based, however it includes eastern influences, marked by drones, chimes, and eclectic percussive elements. The band is associated with numerous current scenes, most notably the New Weird America movement. Acts ranging from folk artist Devendra Banhart to drone metal band Sunn O))) to the highly experimental Current 93 count Chasny among friends. Six Organs has always been a critical darling, and the past few years have seen their stature in the indie world substantially increase. Chasny is also a member of the psychedelic band Comets on Fire, and has working relationships with Badgerlore and Current 93. 'Not quite songs, and not quite jams, melody, minimalism, out-folk grooves and noise. From minimalist, surrealist sound-incantations to pounding twilight mountain-ascending guitar affirmations to ruminations on love in the time of war and death and the end of the world.' MICK FLOWER is one half of the Flower-Corsano duo who earned the following review: 'If you've ever seen the Mighty Boosh episode where they're searching for 'The New Sound' well - I think Mick Flower and Chris Corsano have found it. It's lodged somewhere in between Jimi Hendrix and Thurston Moore, with a stop-off in outer Mongolia for posterity and has inhaled so much Opium that it no longer knows the difference between old and new, sound and silence. This is heady, involving music, breathtakingly visceral and daring you to bust your speakers' - BOOMKAT. The SKYGREEN LEOPARDS started in 2001 as a duo, just Glenn Donaldson and DONOVAN QUINN. Working out of the hobo Victoria District of San Francisco, they've since recorded five full-length albums and one EP in their five year history. Over these recordings the band has been given to metamorphosis but has always managed to sound distinctly 'skygreen'. The Skygreen Leopards mix pop melodies, minimal country truisms, jingle-jangling Californianism and angular folk in the alchemical tradition of change and inward-revolt. Glenn and Donovan continue down their twisted path; the ghosts of girl-beauties, whispering trees, swimming-hole cousins, crippled horses and human-faced animal-saints all join the dizzying parade. |

Daylight Music Festival - Rothko 1pm FREE
Friday 30th November 01:00 PM http://www.unionchapel.org.uk/large_...ko dijon 4.jpg Rothko are one of those bands that whenever I play their albums I wonder why I don’t play them more often. They have a very specific, very unique sound – probably coming from the fact that they have two bassists, and now on their fifth full-length they have honed this sound into a quiet perfection. We all had a real soft spot for the incredible collaboration with vocalist Caroline Ross a few years back, and this is the band’s next step and takes their sound into deeper and darker places. There’s something almost religious about the band’s take on music – there are hints of post rock in there, hints of modern classical, hints of classic soundtrack music, but it feels like the London-based band are playing the whole thing in a church, with all the sounds reverberating and swirling into a reverential haze. It’s like a more melancholy, more muted Godspeed You! Black Emperor, without the hint of post-rock cliché, or at times even like Southern Lord’s slow rockers Earth without the metallic subtext – this is cinematic and evocative music in the best possible way. Okay so the band might not be doing anything particularly new, especially in regards to their already bumper catalogue of quality releases, but what they have done here is hone their sound and keep it gloriously economic. There’s little fat or filler on offer here, just forty minutes of low-slung, bass heavy instrumental goodness – and what more can we ask than that? Fans of Deaf Center should also take a closer look here, Rothko share a similar taste for the dark and the surreal, and frame it in a beautiful mist of graceful, measured restraint. Quite hauntingly beautiful… recommended! http://www.unionchapel.org.uk/whatso...php/00454.html www.rothkomusic.co.uk myhspace.com/rothkomusic |

Notations 2008
7–10pm Thursday 10 & Friday 11 January 2008 FREE Exhibition & live performances of visual scores by over 50 international artists & composers. Different performances each night. The Slade Research Centre, UCL, 10–11 Woburn Square, London WC1H 0NS Nearest tubes: Russell Square / Goodge St / Euston Square / Euston Marking the 40th anniversary of John Cage & Alison Knowles' seminal publication ‘Notations’, the UCL Slade School of Fine Art presents Notations 2008, a range of investigations into what notation is – and can be. For ‘Notations’ (Something Else Press, 1968-9), Cage assembled a collection of music manuscripts benefited to the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, New York. The archive began to map the changing direction(s) of graphical representation in music practices. Notations 2008 is a creative laboratory providing a platform for leading and emerging artists to negotiate shifting relationships between the visual and the audible. Participants will struggle with accepted notions of composition and performance – at the centre of which lies the seemingly fundamental musical score. Through rigorous exploration this mysterious ‘score–object’ will be elucidated. The event will culminate in performances that are open to the public, with contributions from leading contemporary musicians, including Anton Lukoszevieze from Apartment House and emerging percussion talent Sankorfa. These musicians will be accompanied by a significant body of artists from the UCL Slade School as well as invited performers from across the UK. To Rococo Rot
20 February 2008 Renowned the past 10 years or so for their painstaking attention to detail and their warm analogue sounds, Berlin's To Rococo Rot jumped into new territory last year with abc123. This mini LP, commissioned for Helvetica's 50th birthday celebrations, superimposed the typeface, in alphabetical order, on to digitised musical wave forms. It's just the sort of idea to get ICA ears pricked up, but it's not just a clever-clogs concept – the music sounds brilliant. Come hear for yourself, and find out what they might come up with next. £10 / £9 ICA Members + £1 booking fee per ticket. DateTimeVenue Wednesday 20 February 2008 7:30 pmTheatre (standing) |

^
That show was listed on the Family Battlesnake myspace, but that's the only place that I've seen Ramleh mentioned. Just in case Ramleh aren't playing that show, here's early details of one that they will be playing: Whitehouse + Ramleh (power-electronics set) + Dissention (Chris Corsano/Stefan Jaworzyn duo) + DJs Saturday 4th April, venue TBC. Two of the most influential pioneers of extreme music co-headline a very special London performance. This will be Ramleh's first UK power-electronics set in nearly 20 years! The duo of Ascension's Stefan Jaworzyn and free-drummer Chris Corsano complete the bill. To be honest, to me, that sounds like a bloody terrifying experience. |
