Of course whatshername is very good, but meh.
Lady Bird FTW

oh, you’re looking for the wrong person

what you want more of is greta gerwig writing & directing

here’s her first i think?

it’s like “girls” by a non-narcissist. so, shorter an waaaayyyyyy better.

eta: oh no, she’s cowritten since way earlier. also codirected “nights and weekends”

anyway if you get a massive crush on her—welcome to the club. i believe demonyo is president.

She's marriage material. There's sexier women out there but Greta's the one you could curl up on the sofa and share a tube of Pringles with.

I’ve never seen this Noah Baumbach film.

- Frances Ha is brilliant because it's like Godard meets Clerks.
- Wait, so the star of Frances Ha directed Lady Bird?
- How is that Mandy movie, actually? Looks like a Neon Demon vibe but w/ Nic Cage going nuts. How on the money?

I rewatched Get Smart (2008) the one with Steve Carrell. That's a solid good comedy and I wonder why they never made a sequel to it. According to IMDB a sequel is being written. Its got a good ensemble cast, Alan Arkin is a stand out.

I forgot that I watched this Gilbert Gottfried documentary on Friday. The most interesting thing about it is seeing Gilbert out of character, talking in his 'real voice'. That's surreal enough to be worth the price of admission alone.

I never knew if the reveal of his 'real' voice on The Howard Stern show was a bit or not, but it's legit.

EARLY godard, but yes

more in the formal than ideological sense

yeah she wrote and directed ladybird

she also cowrote frances ha

but

she’s been writing & directing for longer than i first realized

thing about ladybird is it catapulted her from the indie underworld to indie royalty but she’s been paying her dues for a while

Yeah it feels right outta Masculin Feminin, but it's also very very funny at times. Totally has that slacker vibe. I was surprised by just how much I liked it. I've heard of The Squid and the Whale, but I'm unfamiliar with Baumbach otherwise.

This covers both the Aristocrats joke, and his Aflac fallout. Yes.

!@#$%! 09.30.2018 06:38 PM

squid and the whale is totally a different style. in color, male lead, etc., probably autobiographical for baumbach.

frances ha is much more of a collaboration and you can recognize gerwig’s fingerprints all over. i’d expect it’s more her material than his and he provided maybe the structure of the screenplay or something.

for another thing they did together check mistress america or whatevers called. it’s a very ethnic movie lol.

Agree

Plus, GREAT scene of Anne Hathaway’s fully-clothed tush. One of the best clothed ass-scenes in modern film.

Absolutely enjoy looking at Greta, however I haven't liked the movies as much as I would have liked/hoped.

Sorry to Bother You

pretty decent. A bit like Idiocracy updated to 2018, OW MY BALLS! replaced with GET THE SHIT KICKED OUT OF YOU! Good sendups of gig economy jobs, disruptive capitalists and their foibles. "That's not a jade door, that's an olive door"

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Almost didn’t finish it because first 15 minutes was sooooooblleeeeeeehhhh... but I did, and it was actually a lot of fun.

Basically Ocean’s 11 in space. Pretty cool. A heist movie more than anything else.

Fun. I smiled a lot. Took damn near TWO DAYS to find enough free time to fit it in... it’s unnecessarily long and ends rather abruptly with a total WTF.

But ... fun!

Continuing to work my way through them. Halloween 5 and just started Halloween 6

Starting to look forward to the new one this friday.

Pretty sure the first two movies were my introduction to slasher flicks in general way back when, thanks to latenight USA Network viewing.
