wife and I watched Beetlejuice the other day. Still good. Had forgotten how LITTLE of the film actually contains Michael Keaton in it.

The Shining.

invasion of the body snatchers, 1978 version

way more stylish and cooler than the 50s version, and a great cast, unfortunately it doesn’t know when to end and it’s maybe 20-30 minutes too long. did not need the repetition of the same scenario over & over..

worth the watch though, i waited for this movie all my life—saw a disturbing image of it when i was a kid and never could find out what it was. but at last! yeah. mystery solved. the weird creature is here...

btw, alien was made the following year but it’s like another era altogether.

this body snatchers in san francisco feels almost right out of the 60s, the truckers in space from alien definitely ushered the 80s before the decade even started

!!!

what the fuck can i say that has not been said already? for me it only gets better with the rewatches. like videodrome itself, it has a philosophy—that’s why it’s dangerous.

long live the new flesh!

Nice. This one fucks me up a bit.

A Halloween of ill-conceived sequels and remakes could be fun. Exorcist II should definitely round off the night as it's likely you'll fall asleep half-way through anyway, but you could build up to it with, say, the US version of The Wicker Man and kick off with Jaws 3-D.

!@#$%! 10.21.2018 08:48 AM

hahaha

i will never soil the great memory of the wicker man with the updated atrocity (i think)

just ended up watching a little bit of party down (old tv show about hollywood caterers, pretty funny)

i dont know why i have faith in the john boorman exorcist though. like i’m hoping it’s secretely gonna be a cult gem or something.

or maybe im just honestly curious. zardoz! excalibur!

demonrail666 10.21.2018 09:25 AM

Exorcist II is a cult gem, definitely, in that it's just so out there. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I'm semi-surprised you've not seen the Wicker Man remake. It's actually not as bad as some people claim, especially if you forget the original. There are worse films, that get a lot less flack.

!@#$%! 10.21.2018 09:34 AM

i generally hate american remakes of european movies. they’re hugely unnecessary and always cheapened.

oh except for the atom egoyan remake of that movie what is the name... french original has fanny ardant and maybe is it emmanuelle béart?, egoyan’s remake has that freckled lady and amanda seyfried... superior remake. more vulgar sure, but the right way—makes it actually watchable.

but atom egoyan is canadian lololol. french money, shot in toronto i think—not hollywood.

Seen it before, but thought this would be a nice Halloweeny thing to occupy my time on an off weekend.

Turned out to be not so much “Halloweeny,” but definitely still brilliant and glorious. It’s been 10 years since this one came out, I realized when looking at the notes. It’s so much better than the U.S. refab, and definitely still one of my favorite horror (using the term loosely even though it’s a vampire flick) films of this century.

!@#$%! 10.21.2018 06:39 PM

yes!

the original is great. the american one is not BAD, but it’s inferior, yeah

!@#$%! 10.21.2018 07:03 PM

had a bit of an involuntary/unplanned neve campbell weekend

yesterday watched for lols

THE CRAFT (199...5? no, 96!)

today it was SCREAM (also 1996), which i had missed altogether when it came out

more clever than horrifying or anything—not bad though. nice for doing the laundry at the same time.

oh it was a miramax film. i guess the more horrifying notion is seeing rose mcgowan in a weinstein production now. yikes.

ps- yesterday i tried watching tobe hooper’s LIFE FORCE, about vampires in space, but it was so boring it cancelled out the glory of a buck naked mathilda may, and i turned it off. amazing in that regard.

Severian 10.21.2018 08:01 PM

Jesus I remember seeing those movies in the theaters.
The original Scream was decent for what it was. Kind of iconic.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 10.24.2018 04:48 AM

Just Basket Case and Nekromantik for me so far

God, Nekromantik really wasn't as much fun as I remember it being when I was 17 lmfao

Kinda sucked ass tbh

Basket Case still rules hard. Hennenlotter usually does

h8kurdt 10.24.2018 07:37 AM

Went to see the new Halloween film last night. Awful. Just awful.

I'm a wuss when it comes to horror films but there was literally nothing scary, or even tense, about the film. What the fuck was Jaime Lee Curtis thinking going for this?

!@#$%! 10.24.2018 08:33 AM

ive never seen halloween, friday 13th, nightmare on elm street...

what other 80s classic horror flicks out there....

h8kurdt 10.24.2018 08:48 AM

Ackshually Halloween came out in 78. For what it's worth the first Halloween film is great.
