Hah sorry it was meant to be under the Silver Lake. I just couldn't be bothered writing out another long movie title.

I watched Sorry to bother you last night. Pretty fun. Not as strong as the last two films I watched but I had a fine time.

Weird thing from childhood:

I think the original line was more like that in the book... “(something something) UNEPMPOYMENT LINE!!!” and that Scrooge encourages the rats to think warm thoughts.

Somehow the hike video version contains a slightly different version. What the point of changing such a small chunk of dialogue (like, five words) would be, I have no idea, but I saw this I the theater and I remember being super confused when I saw that scene on video.

(Also the whole Scrooge-romantic-sung-song bit is something I have only seen like twice, despite having seen the movie about 100 times. Always fast forward through that shit. Show me a chuldreb’s iteration of Xmas carol that doesn’t try to turn that into a song moment and make it nauseating and I’ll pay you cash money)

Great movie though.

Old Scrooge he loves his money ‘cause he thinks it gives him power
If he became a flavor you can bet he would be sour
(Please, sir, I want some cheese!)

He must be so lonely, he must be so sad
He goes to extremes to convince us he's bad
[A line that I can't remember off the top of my head]
We know that there must be a sweet man inside...

...nah!

Pure bliss. It's funny, it's vibrant, the animation is amazing and it's got a lot of heart. A continuous blink and you miss it thrillride that just oozes charm and feels very true to its original medium. Great vocal performances by the cast and damn is the sound smooth in this movie. Loved it.

Fresh watching of A Muppet Christmas Carol, followed up with "What If". I have a strong appreciation for Post-Potter Daniel Radcliffe.

There were pictures of him from a while back where he looked ridiculous.

He's made as much money from Harry Potter as he'll ever need, so now he can go off and do his weird art films.

EDIT: I'm now 'stalker', something that I haven't seen anyone else be.

I keep hearing this is just an unnaturally good movie. Especially for SONY. I want to see it now. I didn’t really give a shit before, but the only negative review I’ve read said it was, essentially, style over substance, with glorious and beautiful style.

I don’t even *like* Spider-Man that much, but the universe presents a lot of opportunities for interesting on-screen adaptations IF DONE CORRECTLY.

Spider-Man: Homecoming was done correctly, and made all the other live action Spideys seem like premature ejaculations.

But to really dig into the world, I’ve actually always felt that a CGI cartoon approach was the way to go. And it seems like I was right, because this is already the most beloved Spider-Man movie ever.

They do some DEEP digging for characters and stories, too. I mean, shit, that’s Spider-Man Noir on the far left. And Spider-Ham?

I’ve gotta see this.

Seriously man I couldnt believe how good this was. My friends took me on Monday and easily the best movie I've seen in years. It bleeds style and is sooo eclectic. It's like a Katsuhito Ishii film almost. I loved it

Turned this abomination off after the opening sequence: lasted all of 3 minutes I would say roughly.

hilariously unrealistic banter between characters:

For no logical reason at all the first character we see starts talking to the person sitting next to him on a plane and this is the opening line of dialogue, I kid you not:
"Oh hey! by the way I watched this videotape last week and it said i was going to die tonight, but i'm not dead so...yea"

*Cue hysteria as he starts to die...

A cash grab on the franchise name if ever there was one. Avoid at all costs.

tw2113 12.23.2018 11:54 PM

It's been an "origins" movie night for me tonight. I have watched "The Man Who Invented Christmas" about Charles Dickens writing "A Christmas Carol", and then "Saving Mr. Banks" regarding, in general, the creation of "Mary Poppins" as a movie.

As much of a fan I am of "A Christmas Carol", I feel slightly let down by this movie.

Diesel 12.24.2018 11:19 AM

I've saw this beautiful movie a few times - fell asleep because well, it's Christmas.

Ed Wood is excellent.

It’s the only post-Edward Scissorhands Tim Burton movie that is actually a really good movie and not just an exercise in beating his house style to death and sucking all the fucking fun out of it.

(Haven’t seen that one where Art Adams plays the big eye artist, but that one is probably OK because ... well, Amy Adams.)

ilduclo 12.24.2018 02:55 PM

They Shall Not Grow Old, Peter Jackson colorized docu on WW1. Vignettes of what it was like for the average dough boy. Sad as fuck, tragic. But it's really banal. No overview or historical perspective at all. For a better vision of the life, I think Cieux de 14, French miniseries much better, and the 3 part American Experience: the Great War on PBS shows the scope of the entire war, it's beginnings and aftermath a lot better. Getting lots of rave reviews. I'm more along the line of 2/10
