It's interesting in principle but I think there are some things that have such an enormous cultural impact that even its creator has to just accept that it's bigger than them. For me it's no different to Spielberg deciding he's gonna replace the rubber shark in Jaws with a CG alternative and then withdraw the original from circulation.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

I don't know why I like this so much. It more comedic tone feels like a blueprint for the kind of thing Rob Zombie would do later on with stuff like Devils Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses (neither of which I like) But somehow Tobe Hooper makes it work. Plus it came out the same year as Blue Velvet and it feels like Dennis Hopper is still in character as Frank White - even though he's a good guy in this. All very weird.
