Is TheFoxBen the guy that asked us to remix something and I made a drone track out of it? Haha.

floatingslowly 08.05.2009 03:33 PM

YES TOTALLY ! I'm impressed that someone is remembering this :D Anyway, the track I asked you to remix was just ridiculous, the worst thing ever made on computer.

This is not only a synopsis of the thread.

This is a synopsis of the last 50 decades of awesomeness !!!

the past is now my future.
photo-finish smiles, exploration.
soul dead like desecrated tombstones,
scattered nightmares of such premises.
unwound youth shackled to reminders;
failed attempts to vanquish my heart.

Derek 08.05.2009 04:49 PM

Actually I should have posted that in the writers thread.

SYRFox 08.08.2009 03:20 PM

okay, just a quick report I'm doing for y'all, though you probably don't care :D

Festival Les Nuits Secrètes: Le Vendredi 7 Août 2009

--> I almost missed Mahjongg, but using various trick (eheh) I was able to enter Le Jardin right at the beginning of their set, and they rocked my socks. They played almost only new songs - Rise Rice was the only "old" (though it's from an album released in 2008...) song I did recknognize. Anyway I really enjoyed their new songs, involving crazy rhythms as always, but also a lot of vocoder vocals. Really interesting. There's this instrumental, tribal pounding epic song which is awesome. As I said elsewhere their sound engineer or something - which I had already seen at the Icy Demons gig two months ago - sold handmade CD-R with those new songs after the show, so I bought one. Each one has a unique cover, which is great - mine is blue with silver paint on it. It looks great.

--> I had never listened to Mocky before this show, but it was really great. He played with his "orchestra", which consists of four other musicians (on upright piano, viola, flute, percussions, contrabass). Jazzy tunes, very beautiful and poetic, and they were obviously having a lot of fun on stage, they were always laughing and stuff. Great and fun show. He sold CDs at the end of the show too, so I had a bit of chat with him and he's a nice fellow as well. Neat!

--> Puppetmastaz were awesome. As you can guess by the name if you don't know them, it's hip hop with puppets. Their CDs aren't that great because you miss half of the thing, but their live show was awesome; it's super funny to see those puppets rappin' on stage. There was a little story (the revolution of the puppets), it was hilarious. STOP THE HUMAN FARCE. The music itself was good.

--> and finally, Mr Oizo's DJ set was mindblowing as expected - if you happen to like dancefloor techno. 1h30 of pounding set, I danced the whole time. He opened with his tune that says Tue, tue, tue, tout le monde (Kill, kill, kill, everybody) and then it went one with distorded techno / house / electro / etc etc etc. Among the things I've recknognized: Mr Oizo of course (Flat Beat, Positif ...), The Prodigy (Invaders Must Die), Les Petits Pilous (Wake Up), The White Stripes (Blue Orchid), The Kills (Cheap and Cheerful), LFO (Freak), SebastiAn (Dog), Daft Punk (Harder Better Faster Stronger), Death From Above 1979, etc. A nice way to end the night - and to leave my neck broken today :/

Les Nuits Secrètes really is a neat festival. I saw !!!, Radio 4 and The Bellrays in 2006 and HEALTH, No Age, Caribou, Nervous Cabaret and Birdy Nam Nam last year there. It's a little festival in a countryside city so it's not that big of an event, but they always get great bands. And it's 1 hour from where I live, so that's okay to go.

SYRFox 08.13.2009 10:28 AM

Clark and Hudson Mohawke are going to play in Lille in October! I feel shivers of joy.

nicfit 08.13.2009 10:30 AM

good morning yall.
today I have to hunt down my scooter.
cause it has been stolen in the night from saturday to sunday. and then the guy dumped in near a road, the police found it. I hope its still running, nothing more I want from it, I am glad that it didnt disappeared completely. (and I am somewhat happy that I decided to rent a garage for my beloved car, even if its a big difference to steal a scooter or a car)

SYRFox 08.17.2009 06:10 AM

Hi everyone!
Two weeks ago, my mother's computer power supply stopped working. So my little brother went to the nearest FNAC and bought, for 70€, a new power supply. Yesterday, I was in the living room, holding my cat in my hand and didn't notice the wire on the ground and walked into it and it turned out it wasn't that solid and it broke down. The wires basically got off the transformer - they weren't cut, though. I felt terrible, and I thought I was going to have to pay 70€ for yet a new one - which would have been so stupid - ; I was pretty gutted as I'm saving money to buy a synth... We tried for three hours (till 3am) to get it back working, cause it was not a big thing, but a tiny iron jacket had stayed in a small element and we tried to get it out, but couldn't succeed.
This morning I decided to go to the FNAC again and try to be refunded (we had 15 days after purchase to get refunded if we did not want it anymore - and a 1 year warranty). So we put the wires back in it (not connected...), did everything to put it back in its original shape - though obviously, it does not work anymore -, though we could not do anything about the cutter and screwdrivers marks on the transformer. I went there to my mother, and she went to talk to the salesman. He asked if we had opened it, so she said Nope - but then he checked the inside of the box and saw that obviously we had opened it - the wires weren't as they should be -, so he was a bit suspicious, but still he refunded us with a holding.
My mother was like "let's not buy a new one right now, we'll go back this afternoon, the guy is already really suspicious about us", but I was pretty sure there would be no problem, I'd just have to go and take a power supply once more and go at the checkout to pay with a holding. So I went, took a new power supply, went to the checkout. And there, the cashier says "It's okay - but you have to go to the computer department in order to make a receipt. I felt "FUCK", cause obviously I would have to ask the exact same guy that had given the exact same holding to my mother basically five minutes ago - and it's not like my mother and me look any different. I was pretty sure he would refuse my request. It turned out he even still had the ancient power supply in his hands when I asked him ! I was shaking like hell; but he said nothing and made the receipt without problems. Which is great. We now have a new power supply and we did not pay anything for it :D
I feel great :D

TheFoxBen 08.17.2009 06:37 AM

Write a fucking book, dude.

i can imagine when you said "i was shaking like hell"...in front of that salesman...ha! ha!...in Fnac they don't ask to much when become to refund something...i did the same once with a camera...and i was shaking like hell to ha! ha!...but there was no problem.

SYRFox 08.17.2009 12:13 PM

haha yeah, i guess i shouldn't have shaken - usually stress only brings bad things ... but hey. plus i have a very bad souvenir at Lille's Fnac (see: http://sonicyouth.com/gossip/showthr...highlight=fnac) ...

al shabbray 08.20.2009 11:43 AM

anybody here digs madlib?
if so I wanna talk, hrhrhr

SYRFox 08.20.2009 11:54 AM

I don't know him too well actually. I really enjoy Madvillain though, and Quasimoto. I was a bit disappointed by the Jaylib album. I don't know his solo production too much. Where should I begin ?

I dont like the jaylib album, too. I dont like most of the dilla stuff and I think it misses a lot of madlibs madness in there. to polished and not dirty enough.

the whole beat kondukta series is just awesome!!!
vol. 1 - 6 everything is worth checking out.
at the moment I am really digging his shades of blue album, where he got access to the whole blue note backcatalog and is making his own thing out of it (great jazz + dirty madlib beats = pure awesome bliss)

these thingies and the madvillain album are my favourites so far, if you come across the invazion ep, its worth checking out even if its by far the cleanist productin ive heard from him so far

edit: I forgot lootpack. I think the whole musical production credits go out to madlib, which is ace too. they are on stones throw records, like a lot of him, I think

SYRFox 08.20.2009 12:35 PM

I'll check that out, thanks a lot.
And yeah, that Jaylib album really isn't great... I think the beats are good (some are really good even), but the rapping over it doesn't do it for me.

SYRFox 08.20.2009 04:34 PM

nicfit, I'm really enjoying Inscape by Robert Logan. Thanks a lot for the tip

TheFoxBen 08.20.2009 04:50 PM
