My girlfriend's mom rented some movies...

Tropic Thunder: 7/10
Much better than I thought it'd be!

House Bunny: 2/10

LifeDistortion 01.10.2009 10:42 PM

I think that "Wall-E" is Pixar's best film to date. And they have a great track record.

noisereductions 01.10.2009 10:46 PM

Fucking finally! I'm a huge Craven fan & collector. The ending on this one was nuts.

LifeDistortion 01.10.2009 10:48 PM

That poster is kind of hot.

noisereductions 01.10.2009 10:48 PM

It's clever. Robert Downey Jr's good. I hate most of the actors in it but it was so well-made and the movie parodies were great. It's probably the best thing any of those actors (Ben Stiller, Jack Black) will ever do. Not to mention that the little kid in it was amazing. I dunno. Held my interest just fine and it wasn't nearly as annoying as I would've thought. I consider that an achievement in its own right.

Anyway, finally got this on DVD after wearing the VHS out for the past 9 years..

MANIAC - 10/10

fugazifan 01.11.2009 10:20 AM

i recently DLed maniac, i have yet to watch it

atsonicpark 01.11.2009 10:28 AM

It's probably my all time favorite "horror' movie. It mixes the gritty atmosphere of stuff like Taxi Driver and Bad Lieutenant with ultraviolence. It's great....

demonrail666 01.11.2009 01:50 PM

Ah yes, Maniac is just phenomenal. Totally worthy of the 10/10 you just gave it. I haven't watched it in years. Definitely one to dust off for a winter night's viewing. If Swans were a slasher movie, they'd be Maniac.

Now, from the sublime to the silly - or is it.

I watched the fifth Harry Potter film last night, after going through all of them one at a time. I've not read the books so I can't compare them and not all of the films are great (I hated the third one) but my God do I feel utterly entertained. And I even managed a few tears (at the end of the second and fifth ones.) I feel twelve.

I have this one on VHS, but have yet to give it a watch. Something tells me I should check it out soon.

That's pretty much how I feel about them. I can't help but enjoy the ride.

atsonicpark 01.11.2009 03:56 PM

Yes, I love all 3 Slumber Party Massacres.

THE BURNING - RAFT SCENE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra7iJna4MxU

Simply outstanding.

noisereductions 01.11.2009 04:05 PM

^yes it is. A truly standout scene for the entire slasher genre.

You have great taste. My wife and I are huge fans of the entire Slumber Party/Sorority House Massacre (and all its offshoots) series.

The Burning is what I'd consider a perfect film.

atsonicpark 01.11.2009 04:20 PM

The raft scene has to be one of the all time best scenes ever, agreed.

demonrail666 01.11.2009 04:23 PM

I agree, but saying that nothing quite reaches the magnificence of this.

fugazifan 01.11.2009 04:51 PM

my friend gave me her password to rapidshare. downloading movies just became a lot easier

"Let The Right One In"
Saw it last night at the cheap theater by our house. Loved it! One of the most unusual takes on a vampire story I've seen.

Glory to the Filmmaker - 7/10

Glad I finally saw this. It was hilarious, though not as good as Takeshis'. Why the fuck aren't those available in America? I know they have a limited audience but if shit like SNOT ROCKET AND SUPER DETECTIVE is released here............. anyway, great film.

!@#$%! 01.12.2009 12:58 PM

didnt blow my mind, but didn't insult my intelligence either. beautifully shot in technicolor. the score/soundtrack was annoying but easy to ignore-- you know hollywood telling you how to feel at every moment. great at reflecting moral uncertainty and ambiguity without sinking into relativism. a good movie, though a bit leaden.

Those movies were part of a package deal to get something else. Sometimes movies are released here in order to get the opportunity to release something else.

The same thing happens here, although officially it's illegal. When Phantom Menace was released theatres were informed that if they wanted a print they'd have to agree to screen a whole raft of filler too. None of the theatres had to agree to this (thus avoiding the legal issue) but were informed that if they wanted to be guaranteed a print of Phantom Menace (which of course they did) they'd be 'strongly advised' to abide by the deal. I can't remember what the films were that made up the package but I do recall a lot of very lacklustre films playing to empty auditoriums for a good few months.

haha. If I were forced to choose, I'd probably go into any one of those empty audiotoriums than sit thur Phantom Menace. (that's right. I went there)
