*must spread rep around*

I actually put on “From the Lion’s Mouth” after seeing this. First time listening to it in at least a couple years, but it still holds up, and makes me want more. from the start.

Great album and band to talk about in the context of Joy Division and Wire and so on. Though not a band you hear about as often. I guess I’m not really sure why that is, now that I think about it.
I think I heard one of their songs on an episode of a relatively high profile TV show — maybe “The Americans”? — at one point, but otherwise... legitimately underrated and often overlooked group.

When digging through a box of noise tapes at the record store, the brown paper bags always catch my eye and rarely disappoint:

No no, not better than Sister or Daydream, but DEFINITELY in contention for top 3. Insanely great album.

Some of the band’s most underrated moments are on that thing.
Like “Brave Men Run.” I’ve requested that song — shouted it out to the band — at numerous Sonic Youth concerts and fans have looked at me like I’m a crazy person or they don’t know what I’m doing. Like, “Whatareyoudoingwewantkissabilityyyyy!!!” Never heard them actually play it, I don’t think. Not in person.

“I’m Insane”/“Justice is Might” too. That shit can hold its own against the best back to back tracks on the big three albums.

I feel like there are a lot of people who kind of only pretend to like this album, but don’t actively listen to it, which is a crime.

Fuck now I’m listening to it.

Cool, I don't know many people who'd claim that. But I tend to agree. It might not be as polished as some of their later outings, but damn the atmosphere is absolutely amazing on this one and it's so distinct. One of those albums I keep returning to. Think it's fair to say it's my favorite by the Youff. Great choice!

PS: I kind of blame this album for my obsession with seamless segues/transitions between songs.

Aye, they're great. Still have a bit of catching up to do in their extensive discography. But everything I've heard so far was top-notch.

Pro tip: when picking an album to listen to while you walk, don't choose Mellon Collie.

Yours, someone who probably has heatstroke.

it's snowing so I'm listening to Jane's Addiction Summer Time Rolls

and I've been wearing my SY beanie to work all week long :)

Antagon 01.22.2019 09:59 AM

Sitting at some Café. They apparently have a YouTube list running that tends to repeat itself via suggestions and autoplay. Not that I mind much though - it's mostly a set of 4 or 5 Talking Heads songs and Born Under Punches just so happens to be among them. Every now and then it would veer into some other Funk-inspired outfits. And then there was Bo Rhap of course, cause it's everywhere. I wonder how often I' m gonna hear This Must Be The Place today.

Yeah, nothing like a good summer-based tune to keep the winter blues at bay. Also: Yay for SY beanies. Used to hate beanies in general, but I've reached a point where I do have to admit that they keep your gulliver quite warm.

yup. When I was in my teens I refused to wear them, my hair would be in chaos. One morning I even arrived at school with a frozen ear. :D
Dutch winter and especially snow is peanuts when compared to e.g. Austria and US. We have had not even 50cm of snow today, and the whole country is disrupted. We can't even have avalanches, we don't have mountains.

so let's continue with the Jane's Addiction

Coming down the mountain!

Teenage Fanclub- Thirteen. I love how melancholy this album is while being so very pop. It's probably TF's most Big Star-ish album. It's funny that they managed to be more prolific than the band that inspired them.

(I was listening to a lot of Big Star on my trip).

Noice. Grand Prix remains my favorite Teenage Fanclub album, though (no disrespect to Bandwagonesque). :)

Cheers! I think the Fannies are somewhat forgotten.

Currently listening to Camper Van Beethoven's Telephone Free Landslide Victory.

I think it's a perfect album for driving home at night by yourself, or else I just have fond memories of doing just that.

Egrets On Ergot - Surfeit Of Gemütlich

A contemporary Goth/Post-Punk Revival project I happen to enjoy a lot. Very Mask-era Bauhaus in some way. Dominant bass section, pounding percussion and that sweet sax. Just my cup of tea
