no no, there is some kind of reboot (prequel actually seems like)

tw2113 03.18.2025 01:55 PM

Conan the Barbarian.

I Am Not A Robot
the Dutch Oscar winner for short movie of this year.
It's a good one, but is it really good enough to win an oscar? well apparently it is.
I heard it was supposed to be free to watch on YT, but couldn't find it, You might be more lucky ...

Robert Pattinson is a delight in this film, despite/because of the goofy nasal voice he puts on as 17 the entire film - apparently he based his differing vocal performances on Ren and Stimpy. The film's at its best when it focuses on Mickey, and the philosophical (and sexual) implications of two clones living at once; the political satire is a bit too obvious to land and it never quite matches up with the sci-fi. Since they're rushing it out onto VOD platforms in about a week, I'd just wait for that if you haven't seen it.

I actually quite liked The First Omen. A nice grisly prequel. Better than a lot of last year’s horror.

both are stunning, in their own way

!@#$%! 03.24.2025 01:30 AM

i liked lamb in its own weird way

oldboy was truly amazing though...

--

i watched homicide: the movie

not so much a movie as a tv special really

but i loved it anyway, warts and all

the end of a very endearing show

makes me a little sad

Tragically, my planned double feature of Patlabor: The Movie (1989) and Crash (1996) fell through because my laptop is a piece of shit. The former is an excellent sci-fi drama about police investigation and the economic ramifications of such (plus the giant robots), and I've seen the latter before anyway.

Ghostbusters Two

still somewhat lame, as I remembered it. My wife kept asking why there was no blonde guy like in the ghostbusters cartoon, and I explained that since all the characters had dark hair, for the cartoon they gave akroyd's guy red hair and Egon's character blonde hair.

Dukes Of Hazard (the movie not the series)
so lame that I just had to watch it until the end. why did they ever make this, who did the casting for it?
Had plenty of time in between to read about it on imdb. This is a nice trivia fact about the director Jay Chandrasekhar:
Quote:

In a March 2017 interview on National Public Radio's Weekend Edition Sunday, Jay Chandrasekhar said that it was not until he was 25 years old that he learned that his middle name, "Jambulingam," literally means "large penis." He only learned it when he was watching his own first short film with an Indian friend and his friend's mother, and when his full credit came on the screen, the friend's mother started laughing--and then told him why. Chandrasekhar then called his own mother to ask whether it was true. "And she goes, well, yeah, literally, sure. But it's meant to be a euphemism for power. And I said, you know, Mom, I mean, all these years growing up an Indian kid, it would have been helpful to have known that.".

Spellbound
Not the best Hitchcock, but very entertaining.
The scene where they are skiing down a hill is hilarious though, it's so fake.
The dream sequence by Dali is very nicely done on the other end.

We all agree that the boomers fucked things, right? It sure would have been nice if the generation after them had actually had some agency in trying to make things meaningfully different, and not just put their hands up in apathy while still playing along. The highest ambition Peter, or anyone in this movie, has is to do fuck all. The nihilism of the office is crushing, but it's what they deserve - and it's a job that just looks so removed from anything I'm likely to get right now.

The movie's a 6/10.

oh yeah well genxers saw what happened when you believe in bullshit "ideals"

not just the hippie shit but also the communist gulags btw. so the apathy is understandable. however, not everyone is the same

many of our current satanic overlords are genxers so i guess they decided to do "something" and look at where that got us. if they had fucked aniston they would have been happier instead of creeping on everyone with their social media shit and horrid tech inventions

anyway i don't know how you managed to make this about the job you're likely to get right now, but that is so gen z hahahahaaaaaa

look, everyone suffers from the same narcissism but ours doesnt require the concern or pity or approval of other people. we don't feel sorry for ourselves. that's not nihilism that's just a bit of stoicism i guess lmao

anyway i'm not anybody's representative btw but i love that people around my age generally don't cry all day, i swear

you need to experience these horrible corpo jobs to appreciate the film.

It is a stone cold CLASSIC.

Don't blame Gen X for quitting on their parents bullshit

we did not give a fuck, and do not give a fuck.
