What Melt-Banana album should I start with?

Bytor Peltor 07.18.2019 07:05 AM

Scratch Or Stitch doesn’t disappoint. Check out the track lengths.

Heard “Wot” on Legion the other day and it got me in the mood.

Been cranking this on and off for a few days.

I went with Cell-Scape first on the recommendation of another friend, and loved it. Definitely next.

Antagon 07.18.2019 04:34 PM

Didn't know much about it beforehand. Total crapshoot, thought I'd give it a shot.

Good. I mean, I've never heard Sakanaction, but for a while there I thought you were rewriting Simon Reynolds' Rip It Up And Start Again. ;)

Well, I love late 70s and early 80s Post-Punk. So it just so happens that I listen to a lot of those artists. I mean, it's the type of stuff I usually deejay, so there's always gonna be phases in which I pipe in a lot of that. But I do like to keep things a bit eclectic.

Antagon 07.18.2019 04:53 PM

My impressions of "The Midnight" so far: Surface level 80s 'stalgia Synthwave with pretty awful vocals. Not really enjoying it.

Antagon 07.18.2019 05:40 PM

Alright, The Midnight's "Endless Summer" was terrible. Need something good now to cap off the day.

Yeah, this one's damn fine. Popped it in a few months ago to combat the winter downs. Good stuff. Just wanted to listen to something I hadn't heard before and descriptions were somewhat promising. Well, as crapshoots go, sometimes you have a winner, sometimes you just get...well, crap.

The Dynamo metal festival is this weekend and it's like 2km from my house. So if the wind is in my direction, I can sing along :)
Unfortunately all I hear is the bass drum right now

Jefferson Airplane - Never Argue with a German If You're Tired or European Song

this is where Radiohead got their mustard from, or so it seems, e.g. Exit Music (For A Film)

(edit: I guess this might be an even better example of it)

is that the aphex twin remastered edition? :D

but if you like those old documentaries, check out Public Service Broadcastijng, or ths other song about Mount Everest

Anyway, my CSNY1974 and Rolling Thunder Dylan boxsets arrived. CSNY is delicious as always, however, this tour was much less inspired than their earlier tours. Mostly due to heavy drug use :-p. It's compiled by the band members full authorization, by Graham Nash himself even.

The Dylan box I started listening to it too, but as always I have a hard time to like his voice. Musically it's excellent though.

Antagon 07.25.2019 08:46 AM

Fishmans's "Long Season" again. It's such an immersive listen, especially in summer.

I don't think the physical release is available from the label (New West Records) anymore, but it is from Amazon... If you get it from Bezos' Empire, I suppose part of the money goes to Slim Dunlap too? Look, anyway, you can get the "virtual" version from Bandcamp and if you don't have it, you should - great rock & roll for an even better cause.
