The best thing I've ever boned to was Dead Elvis and his One Man Grave. Serious garage rock revivalism: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BZJ7exRBWs

I mean, this is decent and I'd likely enjoy a live gig...but just makes me want to listen to the guys these guys are rippin' off instead.

Funny thing is, I've never deliberately put on any music to bone to. Not that I haven't fucked to music...it's just never been deliberate.

The "now" is easy to experience. I like old music, old books, cars, houses, whatever...because they bring me some place, at least partially, that I'll never be able to fully experience. In this sense, the old will always be new for me. Ive spent hours seeking out old bands that were doing stuff way ahead of their time, at a time when whatever they were doing wasn't popular. It doesn't matter what one is doing today, because an audience can be found for virtually anything. Next to everything is so easily accessible no matter how obscure it might claim to be.The new is just...well...right outside my window or another Youtube click away.

Shit, I even wander around old cemeteries from time to time, checking out old/interesting gravestones sometimes dating back well over a hundred years for the sole purpose of going home and seeing if any information at all can be found about them online.

Why do ya think people love dead rock stars so much?

whatever Hayden... go listen to silver rocket some more and come back later

old music is cool for being old, but new bands really have perfected their formula. old garage bands were limited by their reliance on blues chords and other musical devices that were evidence of having no like-minded influencers. modern garage bands have so much history behind them, they can make much more experimental, innovative, and interesting music. sure dead elvis has an influence he's pretty devoted to, but ty segall or carbonas or heavy cream or bass drum of death have a sound that couldn't exist thirty years ago

EVOLghost 07.11.2012 09:34 AM

^ Dood...sounds like you'd love the Pitchfork line-up....

I'm only really going for Godspeed You! Black Emperor and ohneotrix POint Never...

It's art. Perfect formulas are all a matter of personal taste.

Ever listen to Taj Majal Travelers? I've let several friends who are into modern drone/experimental stuff listen to them, and all have a hard time believing these guys began in '69. Not everyone was reliant on blues or strict structures/etc. Radical stuff has always existed. Most don't dig deep enough to find it, however, because newer stuff is often time much more accessible.
