Fight Club is not particularly deserving of its reputation, but it is an enjoyable movie, if not for the ambience of it. Plot line aside, it has an energetic atmosphere. The fights, the power struggles, the mistrust; it's rooted in moments, as opposed to the movie as a whole.

viewtiful_alan 07.27.2008 01:43 AM

Eh by the time any of that kicked in I was so detached from the movie that I had a hard time caring.

Sonic Youth 37 07.27.2008 02:24 AM

My favorite Hitchcock.

acousticrock87 07.27.2008 02:25 AM

Is that the "one shot" one? I really want to see it.

Sonic Youth 37 07.27.2008 02:27 AM

Er...he shot the whole thing with really long takes, basically one reel per take. It is a very strange movie.

Blue Velvet

I never get tired of this movie. I love it. I've recently been watching Twin Peaks so I thought I would continue the David Lynch theme.

I guess there are more than a few Blue Velvet fans on here?

Derek 07.27.2008 05:16 AM

HeINEKEN? FUCK THAT SHIT!

chemicalromance 07.27.2008 05:18 AM

Wanna go for a ride?

atsonicpark 07.27.2008 06:47 AM

I never thought fight club was anyone's favorite movie, I just think it's a movie a lot of people don't mind. So, that makes it popular when with a big group of friends! But, sure, it's really great for what it is... a comedy. Heh. Style over substance? Sure. But the substance makes for a pretty great read. I liked the book a bit more than the movie. Both are pretty deserving of their reputation, though -- they're very well-thought-out and well-made even if a bit silly. Fight Club is basically that fugazi song "Merchandise" on repeat. "YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU OWN". Really? Ya sure?

Blue Velvet is a... Masterpiece. I once reccomended it to a chick who hated it and I couldn't really take her taste seriously after that.

I've been watching serial experiment lain.

atsonicpark 07.27.2008 06:48 AM

ps: I'LL FUCK ANYTHING THAT MOVES.

You can never respect anyone who doesn't respect the genius of David Lynch. Twin Peaks is possibly the greatest television show ever. It covers so many genres. The whole cast is brilliant. Although, the guy that plays James annoys me.

Hm. Sounds like you could also be talking about Blue Velvet.

chemicalromance 07.27.2008 10:48 AM

I'll have to disagree there. I think Blue Velvet has both the style and the substance.

Derek 07.27.2008 11:03 AM

Frank Booth is the greatest character ever.

NWRA 07.27.2008 11:05 AM

I watched Into The Wild, which I thought was terrible, very disappointing.

Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart are definitely my favourite Lynch films. I think they get the balance right; not trying too hard to be weird (not trying to provide material for nerds to analyse and post 'theories' about on Internet film forums, like Inland Empire), just subtly odd with a sense of humour!

put me down as another juno fan. big time! I must have watched 6 times last week. The acting is dead on especially the bit players. Cera does more with his face in one minute that friggin Tommy boy cruise as done his entire career.

Thumbs up for 3:10 to Yuma, No Country was ok I cetainly don't understand it's loft status at the oscars..........

I friggin love this site I just found out TM is playing North Hamptom MA in
Sept....I will make that one.............fuckin A!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I disagree with your disagreement. BV is a postmodern genre film. In other words, it all about surface. If you don't get that, you don't get the movie.
