I think that's what makes the film: the way it switches between this idealism and the disturbing 'underworld' of Frank and his gang.

I quite like Almost Famous. Judging by the cover I expected to it be terrible.

Who died and made you David Lynch? The fact is, you have no better idea than me about the meaning and substance/style of the movie.

The movie had depth to it's characters. It also had humour, intelligence and suspense. The movie did not rely on special effects or breath taking camera work.

Blue Velvet is substance over style. But it has style to spare.

My favorite Lynch film is Wild At Heart, though.

MellySingsDoom 07.27.2008 05:40 PM

evollove - Blue Velvet is both style AND substance. Lynch is obviously in love with the 50's "White Picket" culture, but can "read" the wrongness behind that, in me opinion.

Too much Nicholas Cage, if you ask me.

I can't stand the guy. Don't ask me why. Just can't. He's good in that movie, but it certainly isn't my favorite.

I want to go see Chunnel and Prognosis Negative.

Ripchord 07.27.2008 06:58 PM

plus Q&A with the cast. I recommend it.

I don't have any major qualms with this statement except to say that Lynch's camera work is very, very good. It might not seem pricey, and it might not actually be pricey, but he's very, very good.

I haven't contributed much to this thread because my favourite film is Bambi and my favourite film-maker of the moment is probably Herr Barney. and as such I simply cannot be fucked to discuss whatever arse-rate shite you're all guffing on about.

atsonicpark 07.27.2008 07:09 PM

oh hey neat that movie was filmed pretty close to here.
