Chris Corsano & Bill Orcutt - Made Out Of Sound. Plus its companion 7": "100 Kinds Of Ass" b/w "King Size Coffin". In general, I don't pay much attention to Bandcamp's customer reviews, but somebody wrote a brilliant paragraph about the album: "The interplay between these two is amazing, especially considering the circumstances of the recording. Sky scratching, transcendent modal melodies with Sonny Sharrock and (especially) Tom Verlaine as guiding lights. In fact, when this album is peaking (as it does frequently) it brings to mind those long ago nights when Television would make the Bowery levitate. Great stuff." Tom Carter described said "circumstances": "Made Out Of Sound was in fact recorded in different rooms on different coasts at different times, and stitched together by Orcutt on his desktop. Corsano recorded the drums in Ithaca, NY, and (as Orcutt states), 'I didn't edit them at all. I overdubbed two guitar tracks, panned left/right. I'd listen to the drums a couple times, pick a tuning, then improvise a part, thinking of the first track as backing and the second as the 'lead', though those are pretty fluid terms. I was watching the waveforms as I was recording, so I could see when a crescendo was coming or when to bring it down.'" Fuckin' awesome. Now I want a Richard Thompson album made like this. :) |
Amenra - De Doorn The new Amenra album was released yesterday. Damn fine doom post metal from Belgian. It is their first album that is entirely sung in Flemish language, but just ignore that. You wouldn't understand what they're singing anyway. For most of these type of bands I find the screamo vocals intensely annoying, this is just very intense, and done the right way. They are also featured on this Bandcamp Daily feature |

Y'know what, fuck it, great song.
Miles Davis loved it. |

Sweet mellow music for the Saturday morning with 30 minutes of basically the same riff. Yes I must admit that I am not familiar with the Stones song, I might as well listen to it laters updated laters: well, I took a listen to the Stones original, but prefer the guitar only Brokaw version much more! So now I'm listening to some compilation of old Bowie demos and sessions: David Bowie - Divine Symmetry (rare and unreleased tracks from 1970-1971) |
Quote:
Wow, half an hour of "Heaven" by Brokaw! I didn't know about this - thanks for the link. Yes, Tattoo You is the last all-around bitchen Stones album, although Undercover is pretty underrated. ;) Quote:
Sacrilege! Quote:
Hmm, I can't find this compilation on Bowie Station, either by Divine Symmetry (which shows up as a 2CD boot of performances at Madison Square Garden '97, VH1 Fashion Awards '96, and Bridge School Benefit '96) or The Lost Sessions. |
I'm listening to my baby crying, my older daughter singing, the soup bubbling on the stove, the computer humming and washing machine banging. oh the joys of home office.

one of my favourite album sleeves listening to this album streaming from bandcamp on my tablet speaker, which is a bit of a blasphemy the reason why I love the sleeve so much is that we hardly see that kind of ice buildups over here. It looks like it's photo-shopped but it's real. At the moment certain regions in Europe have big problems with water though, such as here: I don't live near a big river though |
I posted this last week, had to delete and copy/paste it back because the RGC post didn't show ....

but I might as well add that additionally that day I listened to a whole bunch of other Esmerine albums as well as Rebecco Foon's solo album and her Saltland project which I actually liked a whole lot better this time than the previous time I listened to it, shortly after it was released |
|
bandcamp was pushing this today:
and i went to listen and it was good! but it was just a couple of tracks. so im listening twice already to their previous album https://ltrrecords.bandcamp.com/album/unabled-form which is not crosslisted there by artist, took a bit of digging. but anyway some very good ambient sound. |

I've been browsing through bandcamp's "classical" genre discoveries today.
These were the picks I liked: https://annavonhausswolffsl.bandcamp...l-thoughts-fly Very impressive! https://music.juliakent.com/album/asperities https://sonuschoir.bandcamp.com/albu...henon-sessions |
I've had the urge to listen to neo-classical choral music the entire day. Finally found some!

Noveller - Aphantasia |
Just getting into this Fontaines D.C. business (extremely late to the party, I know). They sound pretty decent - the fucking Strokes, they are not, thankfully...

This guy Chatten's vocals were driving me crazy - who was he reminding me of?! People are saying Shane McGowan. I say get the wax out of your ears, people. Just because they're both Irish doesn't mean — anyway, it dawned on me: it's Lee Mavers via Courtney Barnett. ETA: and a bituva Billy Bragg. Word! Now, if I could only remember where I've heard "Roy's Tune"'s riff before... The first album (Dogrel) is not just decent, it's bitchen. |
https://fakeestates.bandcamp.com/alb...echanical-joey Metal Machine Music is prog-rock compared to this. I win the Internet today. ;) |
Beck - "Asshole"
Any straight male who says, "Nah, that hasn't happened to me" is either lying or oblivious. |
https://carmenqrothwell.bandcamp.com...-comfy-nowhere she only uses her voice, a standup bass, some overdubs and occasional background noise. Very beautiful |
Spoon - "Breakdown"/"A Face In The Crowd" [live]. Recorded for Tom Petty's 70th Birthday Bash, October 2020. |
