First of all, who's your A&R? A mountain climber who plays an electric guitar? But he don't know the meaning of dope When he's looking for a suit-and-tie rap that's cleaner than a bar of soap And I'm the dirtiest thing in sight Matter of fact, bring out the girls and let's have a mud fight |
I don't know why 36 Chambers and Midnight Marauders went w/o 2013 reissues. Lame.
Favorite song on 36? Damn. Uh. Probably "Chessboxin" but who knows. Can I say that as each song starts I'm like "oh THIS is my fav song!" |
|
"Ghostface... my g'lock burst!"

Why does everything have to get reissued or remixed or remastered? The original releases were perfectly fine, we all have them already, they are already available for anybody who doesn't, personally I always thought of reissues are strictly recording industry bullshit, and the way I understand it, most bands and artists feel the same way. Usually they're forced on people through contract obligations. Then there is the Courtney Love approach, release Nirvana shit that ONLY she owns purposely to fuck out Dave and Krist and cash in. She is like the epitome of the 1950s big studio music industry slime. So are most reissues |

for me it's about the bonus shit though. But the best way to celebrate an album is how Mobb Deep did this year. To celebrate The Infamous... they put out a new album that's a bit of an homage to that record, as well as a disc of demos from 1994. That's great. I guess instead of "reissue" I should say I'd love to see a disc of Enter The Wu-Tang, or Midnight Marauders (or any album I love) b-sides and outtakes. |
What really intrigues me about Wu-Tang reissues is the possibility that there are verses from group members on songs they weren't on officially. Did Ghostface take a stab at CREAM? Did ODB originally have a verse on Bring Da Ruckus?
That kind of stuff would get me to buy… phoned in remixes? not so much. |

a documentary about the proccess of making the album would be great. even though this is already great enough to me: https://youtube.com/watch?v=UTB46KwtoM4 young GZA was already so intelligent. it kills me how Rae used to say "know what i'm sayin" at the end of every sentence, he was cool as fuck though. |
on youtube there's a documentary about the Wu that is narrated by Cappadonna. weird stuff. i stopped watching it halfway through cuz all he did was highlighting himself.
anyway the one i posted in the last page is the best, in my opinion. for some reason it's not even listed on Wikipedia or IMDB. |
SZA's new album is so beautiful. in my top 5 of the year so far.

So far I prefer the Gucci Mane and Young Thug mix That just came out to Honest... Except for Future's killer collaboration tracks. Kanye, Andre... I can just stop there. But the tracks that contain mainly Future on his own are nothing special for me at this point. Gucci and Thug put one mean mixtape together though. Damn. |

my favs of the year so far: 1. Pinata 2. Clivia Demo 3. Honest 4. Z |
|
Bytor Peltor rarely posts in this thread but he rules it above all.
you should post more up in here. when you do, it's hella good. |
How is this hella good? A dood died.
|
it's not. i didn't even see the RIP until now. i just know when he posts something hip hop related, it damn good. wasn't talking about that particular track or artist.

Ok now I feel like a butt tard. What's "Z"? |

her album only consists of 10 tracks, perhaps it's considered an EP.. but anyway i find it beautiful and strangely addictive. features production by Toro Y Moi, XXYYXX and more. |

five albums that I've only listened to bits of, but can't seem to get into any. I must be missing something. I think Good Kid and Long Live A$AP has set my expectations really high on new releases. |

SZA... Wait, is there any affiliation with Ski Beatz there? I seem to recall seeing that name when I was listening to DJ Ski's album for the first time earlier this year. Maybe I'm thinking of DZA (Smoke DZA), but anything that ends in "ZA" and has three letters is going to spark my interest, because I'll think "Wu Tang Clan." Now I'm kinda wondering why anyone would end their name with "ZA," knowing damn well that they're sipping from an ancient and sacred style of moniker creation. Lol. I guess my top 5 so far are: Talib Kweli - Gravitas Gibbs & Madlib - Pińata Doppelgangaz - Peace Kehd Smoke DZA - Dream.Zone.Achieved Isaiah Rashad - Clivia Demo (Does The Infamous 2014 disc count?) (No order... Too soon... Basically just waiting for KANYE and WU TANG to both release albums in the same year, which I'm hoping will finally determine who my favorite hip hop artist of all time is. Wu owns my youth, but Kanye has made a bullet grab for big Severian's heart) Oxymoron has not aged well. Glad I caught Schoolboy and Rashad live, but it made me realize that Schoolboy Q really phoned that one in. He's a more skilled rapper and a more artistic mind than that album would have you believe. I'm glad it's been successful, but I hope he starts living up to his potential a bit more. Mastermind has somehow tracks, but mostly sounds the epitome of the word "basic." The only truly shining moment? Provided by Kanye West. Rick Ross doesn't seem to be on the cutting edge of anything other than a butter knife. |

Yeah, I'm drooling for some new A$AP. Either Rocky finally delivering on his promised solo projects, or the Mob cutting an official album. But I really hope they integrate Doley Bernays, and I hope Clams Casino continues to work with Rocky. I also need some new Underachievers. Right now I'm really keeping my eye on them, as I think they will do great things. They should hurry the fuck up, though. |
word, I feel like if we get A$AP Mob and the instrumental record this year (FINALLY) then I'll be set haha.
I don't even have 5 hip hop albums I love yet this year. Just: Mobb Deep - The Infamous Mobb Deep Spaceghostpurrp - Intoxxxicated |
I guess I should note that I will be dissapointed, if that list doesn't change pretty drastically by the time the year is over.
I like Oxymoron but I don't love it, Mastermind is just easy to bump when in doubt.. the rest are legitimately solid though. MKL is fun but poignant,, Clivia Demo has some thoroughly addictive tracks and manages to carry itself with almost no guests, and Pinata can safely be called a new classic. |
don't get mad y'all, but I'm not sure I love Gibbs' voice. :\
|
Kanye is dropping an album later this year. Wayne too. and possibly Ghostface and even Jay Electronica. i'm not worried at all.
|
I can't see Carter V dropping before 2015... Cash Money seem to think that the marketing strategy of endless delays is still effective.
|
can we please reemphasize the RIP DJ Rashad part...
|
I just finished reading this:
![]() ...loved it. Y'all know how much I love that 2001 era Blueprint/Stillmatic stuff, right? After reading this and pumping Murda Muzik, I feel like MM is up there too. |

Met him once, a really humble and cool guy, such a shame. I picked this up for a fiver today, first hip-hop album I have bought in a few years, so good though. Haven't found too many artists in the genre I like recently but Ratking and Young Fathers are both dope. ![]() |
new Ariana Grande single is good.. her music actually sounds pleasant to my ears, as opposed to most female pop singers these days.
