![]() BABA YAGA'S HUT presents... SUNBURNED SUNDAY SUNDAY 15TH JUNE LIVE: SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN (BIG BAND SET FEATURING CHRIS CORSANO) With support TOM GREENWOOD (JACKIE O MOTHERF*CKER) MICHAEL FLOWER (VIBRACATHEDRAL ORCHESTRA) Plus DJ CHERRYSTONES On Sunday 15th June Baba Yaga's Hut is proud to present Sunburned Sunday, a sonic exploration of free-folk, shamanic voodoo groove and freeform acid fried psychedelia. SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN will be your guides - performing a rare big band set where their regular core members will be joined by the extraordinary drummer CHRIS CORSANO and underground pioneer of the avant-garde MICHAEL FLOWER from Leeds' Vibracathedral Orchestra. As if this were not enough, Tom Greenwood of the hugely influential, determinedly independent Jackie O Motherfucker ('JOMF' for clean convenience) will also be joining the collective to perform a rare solo set. On DJ duties the one and only Cherrystones will be stirring up a witches brew and summoning an assortment of sonic demons, twisted nuggets and acid fried gems to kick off proceedings and keep us all on track. Trust us when we say that this man will deliver the beats from beyond. Flanked by our trusty kosmonauts the Kosmische Krew this event will truly represent a trans-Atlantic meeting of underground legends. On the terrace we'll also be firing up the first barbeque of the summer to provide sustenance to those brave enough to join us on the trip. Check your minds in at the door and welcome aboard. -- £8 Adv. 7.00 pm Corsica Studios 4 Elephant Road London SE17 1LB 020 7703 4760 info@corsicastudios.com http://www.corsicastudios.com http://www.wegottickets.com/event/31747 |

This is soooooo tempting, but the trouble with Sunburned is that you never know whether it's going to be a good shambles or an utter shambles. Although with Corsano involved it's probably quite reasonable to expect brilliance. |

This year the event will take place at the same venue (London's Kentish Town Forum), on All Hallows Eve itself, October 31st, and the lineup so far looks like this: SHELLAC OM WOODEN SHJIPS PISSED JEANS + DJ ANDY WEATHERALL There is a very special guest to be added to the bill so keep checking back for updates! Like last year, we'd love it if you could come dressed as something inspired by one of the bands (Perhaps you could simulate some Pissed Jeans? Or arrive in a...Shjip?) or as something spooky to help us with creating the Halloween mood. The event will have a free flow between the upstairs and downstairs areas of the Forum so that everyone can move about throughout the evening. Doors on the night will open at 6.30pm, tickets are priced at £22.50 in advance with more to be added to the already shockingly good lineup. Age: +16 |

Sat 26th Jul Mean Fiddler presents BUTTHOLE SURFERS with Paul Green's School of Rock BUTTHOLE SURFERS + Paul Green's School of Rock Doors - 7:00 PM Tickets - £16.50 adv Buy Tickets Buy Mobile Tickets ![]() The Butthole Surfers are an American rock band formed by Gibby Haynes and Paul Leary in San Antonio, Texas in 1981. The band has had numerous personnel changes, but the core lineup of Haynes, Leary, and drummer King Coffey has been together since 1983. Teresa Nervosa served as second drummer between 1983 and 1985 and 1986 and 1989, and they have employed a variety of bass players, most notably Bill Jolly and Jeff Pinkus. The Buttholes are best known for their black humor, a sound that incorporates elements of punk rock, psychedelia, heavy metal, noise rock, and electronica, as well as their use of sound manipulation and tape editing. Acclaimed for their chaotic live shows, the Buttholes have a well-reported appetite for recreational drugs, particularly psychedelics, an evident influence on their sound. Although they were respected by their peers and attracted a devoted fan base, the Butthole Surfers had little commercial success until 1996’s Electriclarryland, their only gold record to date. The album contained the hit single “Pepper,” which climbed to #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart that year. Age: +14 |

Thu 31st Jul ATP Concerts by arrangement with Leafy Green presents Mudhoney Doors - 7:00 PM Tickets - £15.00 Buy Tickets Buy Mobile Tickets ![]() Nirvana may have been the band that put an entire generation in flannel, and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden both sold a lot more records, but Mudhoney was truly the band who made the '90s grunge rock movement possible. Mudhoney was the first real success story for Sub Pop Records; their indie-scene success laid the groundwork for the movement that would (briefly) make Seattle, WA, the new capital of the rock & roll universe; and they took the sweat-soaked and beer-fueled mixture of heavy metal muscle, punk attitude, and garage rock primitivism that would become known as "grunge" to the hipster audience for the first time, who would in turn sell it to a mass audience ready for something new. Though Mudhoney never scored the big payday some of their old-running buddies did, their importance on the Seattle scene cannot be underestimated, and their body of work -big, loud, purposefully sloppy, a little bit menacing, and even more funny - has stood the test of time better than their well-known colleagues. In the early days some of the members of Earth included Slim Moon (later to found Kill Rock Stars), and Greg Babior. The original lineup was two guitars, vocals, and various old analogue synths. After moving to Seattle, Slim Moon and Greg Babior exit… Dave Harwell and Joe Preston join the group. With this lineup Earth records in Portland, Oregon at Smegma Studios with Mike Lastra. Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) and Kelly Canary (Dickless) both contribute vocals to this session. Sub Pop becomes interested after seeing Earth perform live and agree to release the Portland sessions as the Extra Capsular Extraction EP. The release is now legendary for its ultra heavy and slow mammoth riffing, taking Sabbath and the Melvins to a entirely slower sub-level!..... More Time: 7.30pm Admission: £12.00 in advance. Stage of the Art: These New Puritans + Zombie Zombie + Nelson
http://www.ica.org.uk/thumbnail.php?max=408&id=2474 These New Puritans. Photo: Frederico Pellachin, turquoiseboy.org 11 July 2008 These New Puritans are joined on stage by two bands from the emerging French scene, part of Stage of the Art, the unprecedented music collaboration between the ICA and Palais de Tokyo in Paris. This is our final rendez-vous of the 2008 season. Nelson are a cross between Joy Division, The Rapture and Animal Collective, who promise an explosive performance where aggressive guitars compete with delicate electronic sounds. Zombie Zombie are a mad musical scientist project based in Paris, whose horror movie-influenceds sounds are reminiscent of Suicide or Can! Hedi Slimane collaborators These New Puritans have a reputation for furious live shows. This is a band of extremes, for a night of extreme sensations. www.stageoftheart.net £10 + £1 booking fee per ticket. |
