I recently watched the remake of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'

I'm a big fan of the Michael Rennie original so I was kinda expecting it to be a bit crap.

I wasn't disappointed. It was crap.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 02.18.2009 02:09 PM

Is the F13 remake even worse than Zombie's Halloween?

atsonicpark 02.18.2009 02:26 PM

they're about even. They're awful for different reasons. I'd probably rather watch this again than the Halloween remake though.

Rounding out my Alejandro box set i watched the holy mountain (which ive seen once before). ill give it the coveted 9/10. for me, 9 is as good as a movie can possibly can get. 10's have withstood way too many viewings and also taken on a personal meaning. my only 10's would be wild at heart, spirited away, and 2001. and maybe someday the holy mountain.

the last movie - 7/10

Carrie.

De Palma's masterpiece.

atsonicpark 02.19.2009 09:56 AM

Carrie rules. I'm a huge DePalma fan. Scarface, Phantom of the Paradise, Hi Mom, Greetings, Blow Out, Obsession, Femme Fatale, Carlito's Way, Body Double, Wedding Party, Carrie, Wise Guys, Dressed to Kill, Sisters, Untouchables, The Fury, Casualties of War, the first 12 minutes of Snake Eyes, and (the often-loathed but it's still a hoot) Raising Cain are all great! He's had some straight-up stinkers but how many other directors have 15 or more GREAT films?

tokyo zombie - 6/10

This is a fairly well-loved film so you may want to draw your own conclusions. It's a decent film, maybe I just wasn't in the mood for all the wackiness when I watched it.

don't go near the park - 5/10

VERY weird horror with a few really awesome images and soem good gore here or there but ultimately nothing special and way too long, even at 80 minutes!

AHHHH!!!!!!!!! I need to see that now! A new Kitano film is always source for celebration in my house!!! This is the only one I haven't seen. I must investigate...

atsonicpark 02.21.2009 09:48 AM

Well, I'm definitely in the minority, since I loved Takeshis' (which is probably my 4th favorite film by him) and Glory to the Filmmaker when it seemed like a lot of people just HATED them. So, we'll seee....

How is that possible? I think the only way I could give a Friday the 13th movie lower than a 5 is if it was really well done.

viewtiful_alan 02.22.2009 11:13 PM

It was too run of the mill to be too terribly funny. I laughed, for entertainment I'd give it a five. But as a movie its just shit XD It's way too typical to really be THAT funny

acousticrock87 02.23.2009 01:15 AM

Just saw Dune. 7/10. I really want to read it now, though.

I would say that it's moreso the fact that producers can't seem to get enough of funding various lameass remakes. After raping Asian horror, they started picking and prodding at various cult favorites with mixed results, but now thanks to Zombie's Halloween...the new trend seems to be remaking extremely-modern classics (i.e. F13, Elm Street, Child's Play, etc). Hopefully this is a sign of the end for remakes and we can finally get some much more original ideas into the field, especially with all the new upcoming talent in the horror genre.

atsonicpark 02.25.2009 01:52 AM

Ugh, I've been sick and can't move or sleep lately... called in to work, haven't been online much... but luckily I have been watching plenty of great movies!
