i watched hana-bi and sonatine this week. they were both awesome but, question:
SPOILER
SPOILER
POILER
OILER
ILER
LER
ER
R
do all of takeshi's films end with his doing you-know-what?
i jest.
sort of.
looking forward to dolls next.

Derek 03.04.2009 07:04 PM

Hana-Bi and Sonatine are masterpieces. Good to know you liked them.

atsonicpark 03.04.2009 07:38 PM

SPOILERS

Every film he's in, except Glory to the Filmmaker, Kikajiro, and Getting Any? (and probably his new one but I haven't seen it) ends with him killing himself or dying, though only in his mind in one film.

/END SPOILERS.

Dolls is my favorite besides the ones you mentioned that you saw.

atsonicpark 03.04.2009 07:39 PM

Oh, and Sonatine and Hana-Bi should both be re-released by Criterion one day.

Really, a 9.5? It's really good, though it's definitely the worst of the vengeance trilogy; it's kinda cheesy how the main villian has all these high-tech gadgets and such, but I really loved the emotional climax. Go see Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance!!!

Anyone notice how in the Watchmen trailer, that's a slow motion throw of one of the characters, shot outside of a building window, that looks almost identical to the throw in Oldboy? (the only difference is, in Oldboy, the character is thrown against the window)

OH, and me., BIG BANG LOVE JUVENILE A is insane, isn't it? That's Miike's favorite film of his own! I thought it was pretty cool.

i thought lady vengeance was the worst one, though the prison scenes in it were hilarious. sympathy for mr vengeance really is the best, but oldboy in spite of the shlocky madness a la count of montecristo but not really is fucking excellent, especially as a 2nd installment.

Norma J 03.05.2009 04:59 PM

Milk. I think. was pretty decent.

Rob Instigator 03.05.2009 05:24 PM

How was Jin Roh?

viewtiful_alan 03.05.2009 05:56 PM

I remember liking Jin Roh when I saw it, but being slightly underwhelmed. It's no Akira or GITS

MellySingsDoom 03.05.2009 05:58 PM

"Che Part Two". Very good, though it required a fair amount of concentration. The scene towards the end was pretty nice - reminded a bit of "Cannibal Holocaust", as it happens.

Rob Instigator 03.05.2009 06:21 PM

saw che 1 and 2 at the theatre. damn ! what a history lesson movie. long!

8.75/10-It's kinda dated now

Actually, as much as it pains me to admit it, but this was the first time I've seen the whole movie straight through.

Thanks, YouTube pirates

atsonicpark 03.06.2009 07:42 AM

I really enjoyed electric dragon, wasn't too big on bursty city or gojoe but he seems to have lots of interesting titles, will have to investigate..

me. 03.06.2009 09:31 AM

Not seen the two you mentioned, think the version of 'Panic in High School' only has the last 3rd,faulty disc..,but just finished watching 'Solitude Of One Divided by 880,000', what a great little film.

EyeballGrowth 03.06.2009 05:06 PM

Takashi Miike is garbage. Uggh

atsonicpark 03.06.2009 06:30 PM

Yeah, for the most part, he's a hack. Good thing Izo, Dead or Alive 2, Visitor Q, and Happiness of the Katakuris are all so good. And he's done some other pretty cool films. He has a lot of awful garbage though.

GeneticKiss 03.06.2009 11:29 PM

Why do my movie posters keep disappearing??

It was supposed to be A Nightmare On Elm Street...
