A great book by a real hero of mine.

i just finished this, drag king dreams by leslie feinberg. really interesting novel that deals with issues of being trans/radical/jewish/anti zionist/ anti war within the context of post 9/11 NY.

wish I could rep you... I have that same edition of Junky. I need to start reading some kerouac too. Lately I've read the atrocity exhibition by Ballard.

Bought this in Poundland a couple of years ago but only got thru 2/3 of it, time to get back on this particular saddle.

Seconded on about Sun Also Rises. It's the only Hemingway I've read but damn it was good.

On the other hand, I read most of On The Road, found it kind of boring really. Though, I did try to read it when I was 14 or something. Maybe I'd appreciate it more now.

My interest in George R. R. Martin's work was piqued after seeing season one of Game of Thrones, so I hired from the library A Dance with Dragons parts one and two.

But that's the fifth book. If anything you should read Clash of Kings.

I suppose it's now more of a cultural artefact than a purely literary one. I imagine it must've been amazing coming across a book like that in the 50s but I'm not sure if it still really has much to offer, besides as a peek into what increasingly seems like a quite innocent age. And I suppose on that level at least, it still has some charm, even if it's the kind of charm that completely contradicts what I imagine was Kerouac's original intention.

Nothing, as of yesterday morning, when I finished the greatest book (series, really) ever written.

I always (ALWAYS) have a book to read. I'm kind of going crazy without one.

"The Petting Zoo" by Jim Carroll.

I've heard a lot of people reference this as a favorite but I've never gotten around to reading it. I'd be interested to know what you think of it.

Okay, so i just finished it. it was really amazing. i will admit that it gets a little bit slow for over 100 pages in the middle of the 300 page book. but the first 50 and last 150 are well worth it. even the "slow" part is interesting. much more a book of ideas (anarchism\collectivism\mutual aid versus capitalism\militarism\property ownership etc) than actions but it is all done in a really unique and beautiful way. it is a complex book that doesn't show anything to be black and white, and i think because of that there is a lot of hope in it.

in any case, i really liked it.
