LifeDistortion 03.28.2009 02:18 PM

Saw IV, I got Showtime and they show all those new horrer films. I wish they showed more 80's horrer on Showtime like all those 'Dead' movies. Would love to see "Return of the Living Dead" again.

Return Of The Living Dead is amazing.
Saw IV was my favorite ofthe series.

atsonicpark 03.28.2009 07:39 PM

Devil's Rejects, an MTV documentary about people hiding in hotel rooms for 2 hours, driving around listening to "Freebird" in slow motion while the camera zooms in on their ugly faces, and 2 tough guys (one of them being DDP) who violently.. uh... call a cop with information! The best nu-horror film of all time.

noisereductions 03.28.2009 07:43 PM

somehow I knew you wouldnt like it. Lemme guess, you didnt' like HOUSE OF 1,000 either right? Let's go for the Rob Zombie hat trick brother.

atsonicpark 03.28.2009 07:45 PM

Nah, House was entertaining, even though it peters out a bit at the end and the annoying music video editing got on my nerves. But it had some genuinely funny and interesting parts and even a part that was somewhat disturbing. Also, the slow motion zoom out of the cop being shot was amazing.

Devil's Rejects has absolutely nothing going for it. Oh wait, a flesh skin mask (homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, of course) and a girl getting hit by a truck when she runs out of one of the hotel rooms the killers hide at. That part's okay, even though the truck-suddenly-hitting-someone has been done way better in a lot of other horror movies.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 03.28.2009 07:51 PM

H1KC and TDR are both very different films and are each wildly entertaining in their own way. I really like the gritty 70's and Western vibes of TDR.

And for the record: I think that music-video style of H1KC really helps add to the claustrophobic nature of the film. Especially with the multitude of colored lighting.

atsonicpark 03.28.2009 07:59 PM

I liked that too. I didn't say it was the worst movie ever made or anything. I wasn't disappointed, I don't really go into movies with expectations. I appreciate he made something different, I just wish it was entertaining. I mean, I dunno, 10 minutes of "Freebird" playing while the camera zooms in and out on blood- and sweat-soaked natty-haired assholes driving down the road, to me, is not entertaining, "epic", artful, thought-provoking, or anything else. I mean, I have plenty of problems with that film, but that scene alone is so bad that it's hilarious.

At least Sherrii Moon has a nice ass.

noisereductions 03.28.2009 08:02 PM

House of a Thousand was my favorite. I liked Halloween better than Devil's. But I like them all. They're entertaining and feel like they're made by a horror fan.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 03.28.2009 08:03 PM

lolz wut a perv (@sonic, not NR)

atsonicpark 03.28.2009 08:03 PM

noisereductions 03.28.2009 08:03 PM

Maniac Cop (the first one) - horrible
Prom Night IV - horrible

atsonicpark 03.28.2009 08:04 PM

Yeah, Zombie is a horror movie fan. So is Eli Roth. So are a thousand shitty directors making shitty horror movies.

atsonicpark 03.28.2009 08:05 PM

The entire Maniac Cop series is amazing. Two is my favorite of the 3, though. William Lustig is an amazing director.

Though as far as crazy cop movies go... I mean, you know, Vampire Cop, Beast Cop, Angel Cop, Zombie Cop... by far the best is PSYCHO COP 2.

noisereductions 03.28.2009 08:10 PM

William Lustig is great. MC2 is awesome. 1 not so much.

I like Zombie and Roth. Shrug.

atsonicpark 03.28.2009 08:13 PM

Oh right... I started watching this earlier:

But it gave me a headache. Maybe some other time.

LifeDistortion 03.29.2009 01:05 AM

Personally, I think Diary of the Dead is one of the worst films I've seen in my life, but what do I know.

noisereductions 03.29.2009 04:16 PM

^if it's anything like Land, then I wouldn't be surprised.

atsonicpark 03.29.2009 04:45 PM

No, it's way worse.

It's a cheap, pointless, nearly plotless handheld digital video experiment made by a well-established director who has proven he is more than capable of filming coherent and interesting cinema even at his most banal... shockingly incompetent and boring time, everyone looks like they're sleepwalking through their roles, and the film basically plays out like a cliff's notes version of the other "Dead" films, with George Romero beating the same exact themes into our brains that the other films did... but this is much worse than anything that preceded it. Guranteed that most people probably won't even be able to make it through this whole thing in one setting without fast forwarding. I'm never bored, and I hated describing a movie as such, but it was boring bullshit, and it had some of the worst characters in any film ever. Also, it looks like shit.

I knew nothing of the man before this, and was inspired by his determination and sad life story. I can't believe how quickly things have changed in the gay community and society in general.

Ug. I waited SO LONG to see this that I was slightly dissapointed. I built it up in my head way too much. Penn's performance was amazing, but so many of the supporting characters never really came to life for me.

Funny, while watching it, I was thinking how LITTLE things have changed.

Really?! Im sorry. I had no hype going into it, so I enjoyed it; but agree that none of the other characters did much for me... Where are you from? How do you think things have not changed?! There are more homos on the tv now then heteros. Gays can marry legally. They can adopt kids. They can hold any job they want. ETC. All things they couldn't 'do' in the 70's as depicted in that film...
