I would say that it certainly has tried to build them. Whether or not it has been succesful is a different matter.

I often prefer popcorn balls. My best friends Mom used to make strawberry flavored popcorn balls, they were the best. But as for just standard popcorn, I'd probably go with salty.

I think they are a terrific idea, and its actually a tradition in my family. Though only the cooking it done outside, no eating. Thats just insane. In fact I'm pretty positive someone is deep frying a Turkey outside today.
