Acousticrock87 - yeah, that extra beat in the bar got me too, which I why I came up with 5/8 in the end...

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 05:15 AM

i'm just going to go borrow my friend's bass drum
the only reason i asked for the time signature was because i was trying to use stupid garageband shit

i don't think it's in 5/8 really, i'm just talking about the drum, not the little tambourine bit which is not synchronised with the drum.

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 05:17 AM

Actually I started it from the beginning, and I don't think there is an extra beat. The tambourine just fucks around randomly in a few parts. It stays steady through the whole thing, I think. 2/4

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 05:17 AM

^^^Hope yer recording of bass drum stuff goes OK.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 05:18 AM

the bass and guitar are not the same part
nor are the drum and the tambourine

it will, i'm perfectly fine if i have a real instrument but if i actually have to put together a loop on the computer that's when it gets difficult.

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 05:25 AM

It definitely works in 4/4, but it has a weird feel to it. I'm not sure what it is exactly. I think every instrument is syncopated a little differently. Or it's because Lou's vocals drag way behind the beat. Kinda Billie Holiday-ish.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 05:28 AM

said friend is on the way over with said bass drum. even though it's 6.30 AM.

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 05:29 AM

Cantanky prepares to bang the drum for ROCK!

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 05:30 AM

Depending on how good your mic is, you can sometimes pull off a bass drum sound by stomping or hitting something near the mic. You just gotta mess around with it a little.

But if you're friend will serve you a drum, that's definitely a better choice.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 05:30 AM

she bangs the druuuuuuuuummsssssss

terriblecanyons 08.11.2008 05:36 AM

Oh fuck a huge brown recluse spider crawled right across my lap

I mean it was like 2inx2in. It was HUGE.

I hate spiders. Now I won't be able to sleep ever again.

Pookie 08.11.2008 05:38 AM

I just realised you're a girl!

terriblecanyons 08.11.2008 05:39 AM

I just realized I'm a girl too!

Pookie 08.11.2008 05:40 AM

It's been a while since we had a "....is a girl/boy" thread.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 05:41 AM

i'm an it.

if i hear another metronome ever again in my life i'm going to shoot myself in the face.

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 05:44 AM

I left the CD going in the background, and forgot how fucking awesome the end of Heroin is. Fucking Cale...

That's exactly why I don't listen to it.

Pookie 08.11.2008 05:51 AM

She has such an annoying voice.

the only song she sings on that album that i like is all tomorrow's parties. it's not her voice, i just don't like femme fatale or i'll be your mirror very much.

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 05:53 AM

They would all be fine if it just wasn't her singing. I love the guitar on Femme, but her voice...For fuck's sake. I think those three songs would just sound like stuff from the self-titled one if Lou sang them.

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 05:54 AM

I like her singing on "Sunday Morning", in spite of the cod-Bob Dylanisms that she tries to attempt.

Pookie - someone from beyond the grave wants a word with you:

"Oh Pookie, vhy do you zey zuch cruueel zings to meee?"

Me and acousticrock87 bonding over mutual hate of Nico's voice. It's a moment in time we'll never recapture so let's savour it.

I think all the tracks are great, but her voice...For fuck's sake.

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 05:56 AM

I don't think she sings on Sunday Morning.

Tell her to go back to voice hell where she belongs.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 05:57 AM

femme fatale sounds like fucking elevator music.

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 05:57 AM

"Vhy is Sir Pookie so and cruel to meee?
By ze black sea, ice floes in my heaaaaaaarrt."
*Does minimalist harmonium fiddling*

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 05:58 AM

I was about to defend it, but actually it does sound like elevator music...

Still, I like it.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 05:59 AM

or like "please hold" music

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 06:01 AM

I'm a sucker for anything with major 7th chords. I can't help it.

atsonicpark 08.11.2008 06:02 AM

Hahaha.

Personally, if it has a D chord anywhere in it, it's my favorite song ever.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 06:03 AM

i like flat chords

Woah. So like, every song?

The day I found out that you could replace all major/minor chords in a progression with maj7/min7 chords and make it sound like jazz was probably the happiest day of my life. (Slightly exaggerated.)

Flatted 13ths are also incredible. And whatever these are:

That be a diminished chord, sir.

acousticrock87 08.11.2008 06:08 AM

I thought so, but didn't feel like looking. They sound great after a long pause.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 06:08 AM

i don't know what any of you are talking about.

i like things like these, which could be flats or sharps depending on how you want to look at it.

C-sharp/D-flat - the first chord in the descending riff on the Stooges' "Search And Destroy".

Best chord ever. From the Diablo town theme. It's gotta be stummed upwards, to. I don't know why.

yes.
flat chords arranged with regular chords can be interesting and really dark sounding sometimes.
