Sicko and Meet Joe Black
|
The Fisher King....pretty darn good.
|
The Right Stuff. Fantastic, I don't know why this movie isn't talked about more often.
|
el perfume...excellent
|
^^^^
me too!!! Really nice movie, being a "fan" of the book I wasn't much sure about watching the movie, but it's really well done, great photography and "interesting" cast. |
I still need to make up my mind on this transformers movie...should I go and see it in teathers?... the BAD thing about it is that my decepticons hoodie (that I got printed a few years ago) will now look like a trendy outfit. DAMN.
How's apocalypto? |
itty bitty titty committee
disappointing. |
if you like cheesy dialogue, cornball characters, unbelievably convoluted yet riduculously simple plots, and whole minutes going by on screen where all you see is blurry CGI of what looks like some sort of robot parts flying by, then
enjoy the TRANSFORMERS |
Saturday Night Fever. On TV the other night. Mean Streets with dancing, basically. A film that's so much better than it ever needed to be.
|
Hairy Pooter wuz gud 'n stuff.

been watching this recently (not a move, but...)
![]() a disappointment. fell asleep a couple of times. peckinpah-inspired ultraviolence taken to stylistic extremes, but without the substance. in other words, an exercise in masturbation that could be improved by reducing the time spent in overblown fight scenes. though maybe that is the point of this-- in that case, not my cup of tea. i also saw this with little or no expectations, and guess what, i was favorably impressed with this maladaptation of "les liaisons dangereuses". ![]() i mean, certainly it's no masterpiece, but for a teen movie, not bad at all. ps - "buffy" was hot in it. hmm yummy. |

I just watched borat. I laughed a bit.
|
"Volver", yes I have a new appreciation for the beauty of Penelope Cruz.
|
Girl On A Motorcycle....eh, typical sexified 60s fare i guess...very tame to today's standards...honestly a bit disappointed that marianne faithfull didnt get naked more often....
|
Well, I watched "the machinist" and "fargo" after borat.
The machinist is pretty good , I expected something "more" but it was nice... it freaks me out thinking that the skinny guy you could break in two with a handshake is the same one that would kick your ass in a bat costume...actors are creazky people. Fargo, well, I've seen it so many times, good old cohen movies... can't go wrong with them. |
I was feeling kind of down, so I watched Annie Hall. Good times.
|
last night I watched:
The Science of Sleep : quite big letdown, some scenes are good, visually is really nice (not as great as I hoped, though..), but the story, especially the ending, is a bit disappointing imo. then I watched 11.14 , this was a nice surprise, kinda of magnolia meets a summer horror/black comedy movie. |
i watched jean cocteau's blood of a poet last night.
it's amazing. has some fantastic aphorisms, for example "mirrors would do well to reflect more before sending back images". it's a classic. |
saw 'The Lost' at a film festival - not sure if its been released theatrically yet, but its really really good. Dam disturbing and rivetting characters.
|
For your laughter I saw My Super Ex. I want my 2 hours back!!!
|
Live Free Die Hard
|
Rescue Dawn, and Transformers.
|
Closer....i enjoyed it, should i be ashamed of myself...?....the last scene was a bit long and self-righteous though....Clive Owen was really great.

That is one good of a movie. |
Apocalypto. It was a bit silly really and I kept thinking of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers vid whenever the guy ran towards the camera in slo-mo.

new dvd release from criterion, a billy wilder cult classic

It's an intentionally plain portrait of a seemingly naughty subject. It has to be one of the tamest R-rated films of the past 3 decades. And it's also probably one of the least passionate & in-depth portraits of a person. What do we really learn about Bettie? She's religious and has no problem with exhibiting herself sexually. Bettie was nearly valedictorian of her high school and taught for a while, yet she comes across so shallow here. Why is this film so short? What inspired her decision to become an object to simply observe? I guess she represents an ironic kind of innocence. I can only imagine Mary Harron wanting to make this film for the sake of making a statement about censorship with regard to depictions of sexuality in art. That this film received an R-rating today says something [What does this film have: nudity, curse words...]. Oh, and it's also one of the least cinematic movies out there. Don't let the black-and-white photography and sporadic splashes of color fool you - Pleasantville it isn't.
With all that said though, I found the last scene of Bettie preaching outdoors to be the saddest, most moving scene in the whole movie. Which is odd to say because she doesn't look at all unhappy about doing it. ![]() |
Country man, Shottas, & The Education of Sonny Carson.

Munich.
|
just finished watching la strada. i thought it was a great film, a sort of morose and symbolic morality play, starring a fabulously mousey and chaplinesque lead woman. it says alot of interesting things about our desire to control or be controlled, and where compassion and joy stands in relation to power and brute force. on monday i will buy 8 1/2, so i'll tell you what i think this week.
|
Deconstructing Harry. I've been on a Woody Allen thing lately. I think I'll watch Crimes and Misdemeanors next.
