I think on the Sonic Youth splitting up; there are two groups, the ones who remember them when they were young, and those who got into them in their later in their careers. So that is why most people debate whether or not Daydream is the last great record, and those who agree that Dirrty or Goo to be their best record for its pop sensibilities. So I think when it comes to this subjects both groups are right. Because they got into them at different times in SY careers.

I would almost agree with you accept that I was born in 1986 and got into Sonic Youth after Sonic Nurse and I think that their mid-90s period, while still amazing, is the lowest point of their career. |
Quote:
I think their whole career is amazing, haven't been deception by them. But I am talking about the majority here. And most are like that. |

The standard alternative rock plan. Except with more hype. |
"Rhinestone Cowboy" is a better song than "Wichita Lineman".

I haven't heard this release. Do lots of people really dislike it, then? |
George Melly is a better 'jazz' singer than Mel Torme.
|
Lee Ranaldo has a more personal and definable guitar sound than Thurston Moore.
|
Everett True made better records on Creation than Primal Scream.
|

EDIT - I've just realised that the "Don't Slip UP" that I mentioned was by meat Whiplash, not The Legend!. But it doesn't matter, Everett True is still a total muppet and Primal Scream's stuff on Creation kicks ass. |
Quote:
Heh, heh, you took the bait! I dunno, I'm no longer the Scream fan I may have been many a year ago, but you're right about Jerry Thackray and his musical nonentitiyness. I like the bottom of the class. When I grow up I want to work at a petrol station. |

I think Kurt, would have made noise records with Lee or Thurston, And he and Kim would have been vocalist.
|
they could have toured with the Pixies, that would've been sick
|
i heard american idiot the other day and liked it.
|
The Carpenters' "Message To Love" is a real rockin' song.
|
elton john kicks ass!
i but some cheap vinyl the other day and picked up goodbye yellow brick road for about 4.50 $. i also got the platters and go gos each for a buck. and darkness on the edge of town also for about 4.50 but GBYBR is anm amazing album... |
perhaps this has already been covered, but: steve albini's agreement to record bush's razorblade suitcase, saying he honestly thought they could play.
i don't think that was too popular on either side of the fence. |
Bands i like, but i don't think many on here do...:
Sultans of ping f.c. Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine Howling Bells Unwound MC Solaar Over-rated bands/artists: Yo La Tengo Nirvana (they're not that fucking great, surely?) quintessentially, O-fucking-asis! Also, i find i like the idea of Leonard Cohen, but can hardly listen to 90% of his stuff... |
Queen is a good band.

I only have the double live LP, Le Tour de la Question. I love it. That second version of Les temps changent finishes the thing off perfectly. |
Also, I love sea shanties.
|
The Beta Band sound like C-grade Beck songs. Except for a couple.
Not sure if that's an unpopular opion though. |
Van Morrison bores me to tears.
|
80's Clash sucked.
Trompe Le Monde kicked the living shit out of Bossanova, which I believe is a really weak album. Moby's Play is a good album Warehouse songs and stories bored me. |
Wait... I dont get this thread. Are you posting your musical opinions or do you jsut post crappy random ones?
|
I've said this before, probably on this thread, and I'll say it again.
Fugazi are boooooorrriiinnnng. |
Slint's Spiderland kind of bores me. I prefer The For Carnation.
|
Quote:
That's the popular opinion. Mine is the unpopular opinion, The Clash's 80s output was fantastic. Quote:
I never got Slint. A poor man's Big Black. |
Quote:
slint aren't anything like big black! 70s or 80s it makes no difference, everything the clash did was total rubbish. |
I prefer Squirrel Bait than Slint. Perhaps Pookie is thinking about them, when he compares them to Big Black.

The Walkabouts might have made their fair share of crap records, but they still remain underrated.
|
Quote:
No, I'm thinking about Slint. |

Bollocks. By the way, I'll send your 7"s tomorrow. I couldn't carry them everybody's to work in one go, so I'm doing them a bit at a time. |
Quote:
I heard of them, but not heard them - any recommendations? |
i dont really like slint, never really liked fugazi. i loved brothers in arms by dire straights.
