The Squid and The Whale is awesome. It's got a nice look and feel to it and a foul-mouthed youngster.

Tickerwelly 05.09.2009 10:17 PM

Harold and Maude. Good movie with quirky characters. I like quirky.

Chinpira:Two Punks

Some really good scenes in this, the roof carpark stabbing scene had me hooked, maybe my new fav Aoyama.

double impact-twice the van-dammage and with some great one-liners too.

Kuwa_Slayne 05.14.2009 09:14 PM

Love this movie. I hadn't seen it since I was kid. Voodoo hippies raise the dead. Bob Clark also brought us A Christmas Story and Porky's.

atsonicpark 05.14.2009 09:18 PM

I love that movie! It's so cheesy and actually a bit weird. The music is amazing... and the atmosphere is great. It's definitely one of the more bizarre zombie films I've seen. Because it doesn't take itself seriously, but it also isn't overly jokey... it just ends up being weird.

Sonic Youth 37 05.14.2009 10:08 PM

Eraserhead, from the Lady in the Radiator until the end. I didn't know it was on or I would have watched it all. I'd forgotten how creepy it is.

Oh, best description of movie ever (from DirectTV guide):
"Henry Spencer's hair sticks straight up and his girlfriend's offspring looks like larva"

spirit of the beehive

man! it had the most subtle and gradual escalation of dread i think i've ever seen in a film. i really liked it...maybe ill treat myself to the criterion dvd when the cash flows.

HAHAHAHA! Wow, they really summed it up there...

afterthefact 05.15.2009 12:04 PM

Pretty good, a little over dramatic at times, and I doubt them making up at the end is how things really went, but it did fill in some of the story pretty well, and their recreation of scenes from the documentary were spot on.

In case you haven't seen the real Grey Gardens, I highly recommend it.

jon boy 05.15.2009 01:25 PM

the wrestler. it was ok, a bit cliche and cheesy at times but overall not too shabby.

what did you find cliche' and cheesy? I thought it great throughout, very honest, and emotionally true.

atsonicpark 05.15.2009 03:54 PM

I thought it was a bit cliché myself. Not cheesy, though. Still a good movie. It'd be difficult for me to tell you what I don't like about it at this point since I watched it so long ago and I've watched a thousand movies since then.

...

I watched MANOS: HANDS OF FATE without Mystery Science Theater 3000 accompaniement for the first time. And what can I say? I kinda liked it.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 05.15.2009 05:31 PM

Haha, the MST3K commentary on Manos is priceless.

his daughter says she never wants to see him, next thing they go to the old fairground they went to when she was younger where he cries and tells her he is all alone and then they dance in a hall to invisible music. capiche.

it wasnt all like that and i did enjoy it and like i said, overall not bad.

Ugh. I hated it. What a boring mess of a film.
The pacing was unbarable.

atsonicpark 05.15.2009 06:20 PM

Do you have a low attention span?

Granted, it's not the best film in the world but I dunno if I'd ever describe it as boring. Actually, I wouldn't describe most movies as boring (except perhaps Lord of the Rings movies).

Dr. Eugene Felikson 05.15.2009 06:22 PM

Either that, or the film sucked...

I think I'll go with the latter.

EDIT (since you edited yr post)

I don't believe that I have a low attention span. I can sit through slow-paced films such as David Lynch's Eraserhead, or Philippe Grandrieux's La Vie Nouvelle effortlessly.

With such a clever title, and outstanding promotional art (such as the poster posted above), I couldn't help but be more than a bit disappointed with what I watched.

What exactly do you find so enjoyable about this one?

Trasher02 05.15.2009 07:11 PM

Milk.
Damn, talk about overrated.

atsonicpark 05.15.2009 07:19 PM

Ah, I wrote on the last page what I liked about it.

Yeah! I saw this in the theater. Really pretty good. Almost like the tough Bond movies of late.

Stars Malkovich and you didn't expect strange?!

al shabbray 05.16.2009 09:04 AM

^^^hahahah
I didnt knew that gustav klimt himself was THAT fucked up and twisted. so I expected more of a straight movie bout him, which is completely wrong.
but he story behind the person himself feeds the strangeness too.
