I wanted to like "Feast" as well, but it just seemed like it was too self-concious of itself. Like the script was like "place funny part there", "place scary part there". I saw the film because it had a "intresting" cast. This movie could have really been in the vein of "Evil Dead" but came off lame. Some people love this movie for what it was, definately worth checking out but should have been better and *minor spoiler* why the hell wasn't Krista Allen in the second one?

atsonicpark -- please clear some PMs

Blowup

It's on freaking TCM free on-demand!!! I've watched it twice in the past 24 hours.

Know what else is on free on-demand: Eraserhead. Yes, Eraserhead!!!

And tomorrow, Casino Royale premieres on USA.

Who needs to leave the house!?

jon boy 06.03.2009 04:10 PM

saw quantum of solace (i didnt want to) but was stuck in a room with people who did. it wasnt very good though, made me want to see every casavetes movie to get my mind back.

gmku 06.03.2009 04:12 PM

Yes, every fan of the "new" Bond I know has been disappointede with QoS. Still, it's better than most of what preceded Casino. It's not terrible, just not as great as Casino. I've actually watched it three times now, and it seems to get a little better with each viewing. But then again, I'm a big fan of the new Bond.

atsonicpark 06.03.2009 05:41 PM

Yeah, Quantum of Solace was awful.

I just watched LADY TERMINATOR. 6/10. Hilarious Terminator ripoff.

NR, my pm's are cleared.

gmku 06.03.2009 05:53 PM

I don't agree that it was awful. It just wasn't great. I've already said that, though.

You're trying to piss me off.

looks awesome.

I'm not a big Spielberg fan (I like about 3 of his movies), but I always watch this quite a few times during the summer. Robert Shaw FTW

atsonicpark 06.04.2009 06:31 AM

Noisereductions, I highly reccomend chekcing out Lady Terminator. In some ways, it's BETTER than Terminator. It has electricifed snakes going into girl's vaginas and raping them, green magical booger fireballs than fly into people's eyes, and then there's about a thousand scenes ripping off Terminator. Hilariously, in some ways, it's better than Terminator! (more entertaining, at least)

I think this is in the NR-household somewhere. I'll have to look.

viewtiful_alan 06.04.2009 02:33 PM

8/10
Loved it, best PG-13 horror movie ever?

7/10
Good but it kind of felt a little pointless when all was said and done.

afterthefact 06.04.2009 02:38 PM

I found this to be very boring and dull. It seemed to attempt the standard British humor of it's time - dry, silly, and random - but it didn't really pull it off. I really struggled not to fall asleep, and I wasn't even tired.

Combing the underground!

Different places and different ways. Friends of friends reccomend stuff. In the case of Lady Terminator, I'd heard about it years ago and some guy I know in real life recently brought it up so it sparked my memory. So, I netflixed it.

Fugazifan, I'll check that movie out. FACETS always releases interesting stuff..

We've already gone over this a few times, but INLAND EMPIRE is a pretty simple story shown to you in an unorthodox way. Also, I love it.

atsonicpark 06.05.2009 07:28 AM

Yeah.. didn't find Inland Empire confusing. In fact, it's probably too simple, especially after the beginning. Just an overlong summary of the themes Lynch has been exploring for years... There's just not much too it. Decent film though. I've watched it 5 1/2 times myself, so I definitely have a fondness for it...

Tokolosh 06.05.2009 07:39 AM

I don't want to get into this again, but you'd probably think different if you knew where Lynch is coming from. This film has a big FUCK YOU written all over it towards mainstream filmmaking and Hollywood.
There's a good reason for him vowing to never use 35mm celluloid again.

This film is a menace that will come back and haunt everyone for years to come, but that's just my opinion.

atsonicpark 06.05.2009 07:41 AM

Yeah, the reason is because it's cheaper to shoot on digital, and he shot 100's of hours worth of stuff for this movie, which would have been impossible with film.

The entire film is one big improvised experiment. That's cool. I guess it's aesthetically pleasing to some people, I dunno... I know there's rumblings on the internet about how Lynch made it look cheap (and feel cheap) to "inspire" people. Like, "Hey! Get yourself a $2000 DV camera, and you can make a film as good as this!" While that theory is cute, he spent years making this film, not knowing what he wanted it to be, since it was his first REAL experiment with digital video making. He pieced the film together and well....... eh. I have high hopes for his next film, however.

...Also, I'm pretty sure I know where Lynch is coming from, he's been one of my favorite filmmakers for 10 years of my life and I've seen every thing he's ever done (Hotel Room, Dumbland, On the Air, all his commercials -- EVERYTHING). Inland Empire is a pretty cool film. Not much more.

Tokolosh 06.05.2009 07:46 AM

There's nothing more dull than Hollywood, so I guess that explains it.

Edit: You mentioning it being dull.

atsonicpark 06.05.2009 07:50 AM

Yeah, I edited that part out because I didn't want to debate over the film's merits.

As I said, I have a fondness for it, but I don't feel like it was all that successful, all in all. It was lacking the energy and complexity I look for in Lynch's films. Writing the script on napkins the night before shooting principle scenes probably wasn't the best idea; that's why the film feels so empty and drab. Damn, trying not to debate its merits! I've explained myself elsewhere regarding this film so...

But, yeah, if you want to look at it as an attack on Hollywood, sure. I think Mulholland Drive was more successful in that area.

samesies.

Tokolosh 06.05.2009 07:53 AM

Let's face it, nobody can make films like David. Not even the big boys that can permit themselves to splash out millions. They lack the imagination and skills of being true and honest filmmakers.

Tokolosh 06.05.2009 07:57 AM

He's been attacking Hollywood ever since he made Dune because they didn't keep their promises in supporting him with his dream projects after that.

The reason I rated it ?/? was because I'm not sure how to rate it. Did need to be 3 hours? No. Could it have been 15 minutes? Yes. But then it wouldn't be a David Lynch masterpiece. Also, I've never been a fan of the "shooting a movie within a movie" thing and this one is no exception. However, Laura Dern's face on the the guy near there in is probably one of the creepiest things he's ever done.

Sonic Youth 37 06.05.2009 10:25 AM

Not rated because it's a personal favorite and I totally could have lived on the film set indefinitely. Tim Burton + 18th century Upstate New York + lots of black=win

cuneyt81 06.05.2009 12:43 PM

last movie I saw was Fast Food Nation...though right now I'm curious about After Last Season, which looks like it was filmed in someone's garage over one weekend for $10.

atsonicpark 06.05.2009 12:45 PM

whoa. I'll have to check that out. No budget cinema is my speciality..
