Started Season 2 now. Actually took me three tries to finish the first one. I don't know, something about the topical content and the hectic pacing made it a bit of a hard watch at first. I did enjoy it in the end though. Not your run-off-the-mill comic adaptation. I really dig the set-pieces and the psychedelic aatmosphere.

i hate that they removed tom keene from bloomberg surveillance on tv

he's a funny old man with an erudite mind and his banter with bramo and ferro was great

im listening to him now on the surveillance podcast, which you can actually watch on youtube. and he's also great there but now missing the other side of the team

i saw the first episode of fallout. it was funny and entertaining and pretty well made. i can't compare it to the game because i've never played. i hope it's better than the halo series which has good spectacle but predictable boring plot (and i've never played that game either)

My brother has played the games and LOVES the show! He said it was pretty accurate to the games.

I recently finished Buffy, first time watching it through. Some things didn't age well at all, as was to be expected. And the whole Joss Whedon situation was hanging over the viewing experience like a cloud. But overall, I have to conclude that it was a damn fine piece of television for its time. Funny, likeable characters (with a few exceptions) and strong interpersonal relationships. Nice time capsule in terms of music and style too. And gutsy artistic decisions for network television. I get the hype.

Meanwhile, I've started watching what someone once aptly described as a Vampire-shaped plank of wood. Boreanaz can be good when he's allowed to be a bit more jovial. But that brooding stoical vamp routine is very dull. His more comedic notions and Charisma Carpenter reprising her redeemed clique queen persona Cordelia are doing a lot of the heavy lifting in this early stretch of the first Season. But it supposedly gets more interesting. I'll give it a shot.

buffy is great, a classic really, and sure some things age poorly but it was important in its day. i don't find it profound btw, some people do, but it was sooooo entertaining

as for the scandals, i have tired of our current era's pharisaic predilections and prefer to ignore them because they taint the experience, and i'm sure that in the end everyone involved is guilty, lol, not just the accused. guilty as sin as the expression goes (or "every cop is a criminal," as mick jagger sang)

anyway, where buffy was originally a show about highschool and the difficulties of adolescence (and the college bit was somewhat of an extension), angel was about work and adulthood. not all seasons and characters and storylines were great either, same as buffy, but overall i enjoyed it tons, and i would watch it all yet again, why not. i still laugh at some memories of it but i'm not going to spoil them for you by revealing them prematurely. but please do come back afterwards and comment

The reception I've heard from it is "good but not great, and the more you know about the games the less you'll enjoy it". The games are obviously getting a whole bunch of new attention from it, including me trying to play through an RPG that came out before I was born - need to get a better laptop so that I can live up to my transgendered nature and play New Vegas.

In the least surprising news ever, I'm finally succumbing to being a weeb and watching Dungeon Meshi (or, as the official but stupid English title is, Delicious in Dungeon). An adaptation of the recently-concluded manga by Ryoko Kui, it's being released on Netflix one episode a week - and I figured that I may as well interact with the media that my profile picture is from.
The plot setup's a very traditional fantasy premise - our party of adventurers (primarily based around Laois, Marcille, and Chilchuck) attack the Red Dragon at the core of the dungeon before it defeats them, taking party member Falin (Laois' younger sister and Marcille's former classmate and lesbian crush) with it. Exiled back to the entrance of the dungeon, and with their colleagues Shuro and Namari leaving the party (both reappear later), they set off again to rescue Falin with a slightly left-field plan - rather than spending money they don't have on food and having to slug it around, why not live off eating the monsters in the dungeon? Fortunately they run into Senshi, who roams around the dungeon for his life, and they set off on many wacky adventures. It gets weird, and I'm really enjoying it.

i ended up reading about the original game (reminds of "wasteland", which i've played) and from what i could gleam it seems that the plot and characterization of the show are more interesting than the game itself. which is probably as it should be? "inspired by" sounds more like... anyway, walton goggins great as usual hahahahaha

with the premier league ending this weekend and champions league final on june 1st (goodbye peacock and paramount+) im gonna need some summer tv subscriptions.... not sure what to get yet

maybe a bit of hulu and netflix to catch up with what i've missed... or free apple tv if i replace a device

there is a peacock show i both love and hate. RESIDENT ALIEN. season 1 i mostly loved season 2 im mostly hating

alan tudyk in it is HILARIOUS! his predicament as an alien hiding among humans trying to complete his interrupted mission is a great plot driver

BUT! aside from his story and characterization there is a boring fucking millennial soap opera in the background that is dull as fuck! the particular dramas of the assorted citizens of the town of "patience" (you need it!) add nothing to the story! they just delay and distract and make you forget that you're supposed to be, oh yeah, following an alien

whatever contributes to the alien's story, sure, show those characters! but when some random stupid ass couple or maladjusted overgrown teenager becomes the end in itself, i ask myself "why the fuck am i watching this boring shit?" and the answer is "oh yeah i am waiting for the hilarious alien and the kids and the xfiles derivation". but in between i have to endure some fucking cringe hallmark channel scenes mixed with unfunny parks and recreation ripoffs

but no i do not want boring soft milennial soap operas full of clichés. unfortunately life is short and i had to terminate this time waster. which is a pity

maybe i'll just fast forward through the boring bits. alan tudyk is a genius! but fuck, the peacock fwd/rwd controls are shit too. you can't pick an exact clip, and it moves too fast. i wanna yell "peacooooooock!" the way kirk yelled "khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!"

speaking of kirk... that star trek show with badass michelle yeoh was also ruined by millennial soft soap opera shit, to the point that even the computer was having fee fees and needed some idiot to sing her a lullaby, what the fuck!

fucking overly soft millennials ruining tv with their emotional incompetence hahahha. can't overcome themselves to accomplish shit. and we're supposed to sit and watch them standing around looking dumb and telling each other softly "you got this!". jeezus haploid christ!

can't wait for some rapacious horde to eat all the elois...

It's the time of the year again for Roland Garros
I never really liked Djokovic, but age really did him good I guess (or me perhaps?). Man he's getting more and more competition by even much lower ranked players but in the end he's still winning. And with great playing, not just the hard hitting unbeatable aces.

Been meaning to watch this but I think I think it’s a Syfy channel show and Syfy channel fucking sucks. Just wretched. I’m sure Alan T. is good tho

he is great really, and i would still recommend season 1, when he rules the screen and before the story turns into instant oatmeal

yes syfy has mostly crap but every now and then they manage to make something significant (and then they promptly shit the bed)

take galactica, which started great then spent a year in some mud camp in tents and ends in what the fuck, religion, ugh

but the original miniseries was good eh? i tried to rewatch the other day but it was ruined by memory: "hey, thats a cylon, that's a cylon, thst one is also a cylon, so many cylons, hey thats and angel wtf fuck off lol," there is no suspense or meaning once the trick is revealed

but when it first came out it became a bit of a cultural phenomenon

and then it just... whatever. from battlestar to bs

my syfy guilty pleasure (not guilt really, just an expression) was the cheap-ass made defiance some years ago. if you accept you're entering a cheaply built set with a budget cast you can still enjoy things. in particular, those white skinned aliens where hilarious, the main married couple... had a highly entertaining interaction while the show lasted. other shit was corny but whatever

hey, i'll take the laughs where i can find them... important stuff for me, daily laughs. it's like vitamin c, supporting my immunity

so tldr yeah check resident alien season 1 good times

I wanna quote my girlfriend here: "That was some bullshit."

While beautifully animated and expertly scored, I thought it failed to maintain an engaging plot. There were only so many heavy-handed religious and mythological analogies I could bear before it became an absolute slog to sit through. The lack of likeability of the main characters didn't help either. I found it incredibly hard to get invested in their stories or care much about what happened to them. Some of the supporting characters were a good bit more likeable, but they didn't get enough time to let that sink in. New scenarios and plot points are introduced on a whim, it seems, nothing ever gets time to breathe. On the flip side, its best episode probably was one where the two mains were forced to take it slow. Too little, too late though. It's not like it changed much in terms of character development. Both of us were glad when it was over.

im rewatching the entirety of "the wire" all over again

it's the only thing that manages to give me a proper mental break these days

everything else mostly just tries my patience and sends me back to work in 5 minutes

but the wire! goddamn i love that show so much. even when i already know wtf is going to happen. and yeah i often have to pause to get back to work anyway, but it's sooooo good it gives me moments of real satisfaction

choc e-Claire 09.25.2024 01:09 PM

Continued my descent into my inevitable nerd-dom and watched an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 today. Interesting premise, not sure what to make of it, will probably watch the few others I've downloaded and see how that looks for me.

we have this newly added channel, HGTV, and I'm kind of addicted to watching My Lottery Dream Home
With every new season the guy has a ton of new tattoos on his body
It's also a nice way to sight see the various states of the USA
But it's really rubbish, addictive rubbish it is

Toilet & Bowels 09.25.2024 09:44 PM

I just finished watching The Acolyte, best of The Star Wars TV shows I've seen, too bad they cancelled it to appease a bunch of sickening incels.
