trying to become sick today, even had a swollen lymph under my right jaw and it hurt to swallow. quick trip to the nurse practitioner resulted in a shot and already feeling better......which is a blessing as it's about to be azz kicking time for those in the floral business!

schizophrenicroom 02.11.2015 09:48 PM

shit. glad you're better. swollen lymphs are no fun. make some bread this weekend!

_tunic_ 02.12.2015 01:41 AM

definitely bad timing for you to get sick now before Valentine's, so take care and recover soon!

Bytor Peltor 02.12.2015 05:53 AM

^^THANKS Guys, feeling much better this early AM. So much so I decided to work MY job (six hours down, two remaining) Then I start three full days of helping out at our shop.

As per the norm, this Valentine's Day will be slower than most, because it's on a Saturday. It's the weekend and the Mardi Gras is in full swing. Let Valentine's Day falls on a Monday through Thursday, this is when we are extra busy!

Valentines day makes more $$$ when flowers are to be delivered to offices and places of work huh?

schizophrenicroom 02.12.2015 01:47 PM

i have a killer headache/fatigue thing going on. probably the wine from last night.

Antagon 02.12.2015 03:46 PM

Is it normal that being around people quite often makes me feel even lonelier?

i don't know if it's "normal" (depends on how you define that word) but it's definitely sane and reasonable for an introvert to feel that way.

herds are... unpleasant.

YES - flower shops charge a delivery fee......believe our fees start at $6 and go up to $15 depending on the distance and difficulty......difficulty being places like refineries (high security places) and hospitals.

Some refineries have lobby's where they confirm the receivers name, accept the flowers on their behalf allowing you to leave them and move on. We like those :)

However, some refineries make you wait while they go out in the parking lot to sweep the delivery van and won't allow you to leave until the recipient makes their way up front to receive the flowers......this can sometimes take 30 minutes to an hour. There are a few refineries we refuse to make deliveries.

Hospitals can pose similar problems depending if it's for a patient or employee. Some hospitals don't allow fresh flowers/plants on specific floors. Also, patients are discharged and no longer at the hospital, no big deal if they live in the same city a few miles away. However, some live 25-50+ miles away.

There are other odd situations......

Back to Valentines Day. Orders placed early in the week have the choice of requesting specific delivery times. Anything after lunch today until lunch tomorrow will be sorted by AM/PM. Anything after that may be a NO GO. You see, we employee extra drivers over the three days, but each driver can only make so many deliveries and people get turned down. Also, flower shops run out of flowers which is the goal and blessing of EVERY shop.

Valentines Day falling on: Monday Tuesday Wednesday is much for profitable for shops compared to when it falls on Friday Saturday. Weekend V Days have so much more competition for $$$

That's certainly a huge contributing factor. I'd consider myself an introvert. But there are also situations that just make me question the judgement of other people and then in turn my own judgement. Guess I just need my obligatory distance from time to time.

BIG BIG rookie mistake for Playa's to order flowers for their wife and sidepiece from the same shop! Mistakes do happen......sometimes on purpose :D

schizophrenicroom 02.12.2015 04:29 PM

oh, snap. any good stories about that?

Rob Instigator 02.12.2015 04:31 PM

I was reading an article about Super Bowl ticket scalpers/brokers and they mentioned one big time broker who got a call from a rep for a Pro-Bowl player who wanted tix for Super Bowl, reservations at a posh hotel for him and his wife, and reservations at a more modest hotel across town in Phoenix for his girlfriend. Insane.

schizophrenicroom 02.12.2015 04:36 PM

wonder who it was. that's bonkers. broker probably made a sick commission.

the thing with herds is that they don't think for themselves but rather follow the follower. herds inherently lack judgment. flocking is an instinct for safety... but it doesn't always work because said lack of judgment. e.g., people buying houses at the peak of the housing bubble, or ditching their investments at the bottom of the recession.

the suffering of introverts (a minority) comes from the feeling of obligation to fit in with extroverts (a majority) which causes them to grate against their own nature and get into the foulest of situations. i remember when i trying to "fit in" ha ha ha-- i never did and all i got was misery.

i learned a while ago (thanks, therapy!) that it's better to build a hospitable environment around yourself-- i don't mean isolate yourself in a cult, but you know, do things that are good for you personally not necessarily desirable by "the majority" (whatever that is).

(freud never actually said that but i enjoy that meme)

and i posted this before, elsewhere, but here it goes again:
