Almost done with a rewatch of The Americans that I’ve been slowly picking away at for like 2 years.

Goddammit this slow is good. It holds up very, very well.

i cant watch a lot of tv lately but i discovered "homicide: life on the street" on peacock and i try to watch one episode per day

homicide is a 90s show and the police procedural ancestor of "the wire", plus it's the original cradle of detective munch (the worst fucking detective) who would later appear in law an order and even get a mention on luther (hilarious)

it's in/about bawlmor, and based on a book by david simon about the bawlmor homicide squad (he was a crime reporter there)

it's nowhere as deep and serious as the wire, but it has some great characters and stories that sketch a of prelude to the superior series. also some actors reappear there

it's not mind blowing or anything but i find it really enjoyable in spite of some weird cast changes and new lame opening credits (the network always fucking with the creative team)

Also: the heated argument between Poppie and Kramer wasn't ostensibly about abortion; it was about whether a pizza is a pizza once it goes into the oven or only when it's cooked. (Which is of course a metaphor for abortion. :D) The guy who was really against the right to abortion was the one Elaine was dating, and that's why they break up. Ominously, at one point he says, "You know, someday... we're going to get enough people in the Supreme Court to change that law." :eek::mad:

John Munch rocked! But he was prone to conspiracy theories, unfortunately - that's why he also appeared on The X-Files. And he also shows up in an episode of The Wire itself, come to think of it.

oh but the original john munch just talks and talks all day and does fuck all at work! he's just obsessed with his gilfriends/exes and completely useless hahahaha. im on season 5 already and he has solved maybe 1/2 a murder? fucker is a disgrace lololol. nevertheless by season 5 he gets top billing! true he is a comedic attraction, but *as a cop* i'd fire the bastard. frank pembleton is thee star murder police in that show

as a business partner munch is also fairly useless hahahahaha. he's very funny though. although infuriating at the same time

anyway i didnt remember him in the wire, but looking up his imdb credits he played the munch role in many other places! very funny hahahahaha. i'll be sure to look for him the next time i watch the wire

Marvel's What If ... ? Season 3. Purely as background noise while I do things. I'm mostly with the many detractors - that third season is just sad.


S1 had a couple of legitimately great episodes and was good fun overall, S2 had quite some potential that didn't really come to fruition. And now this ... parody of itself. In part a showcase of whatever special interest the writers wanted to insert into the Marvel universe and otherwise an undercooked exercise in saccharine melodrama. Was this season heavily affected by the writer's strike? Cause a lot of it feels like a first draft.

The new season of The White Lotus.

Homicide is classic 90s TV, last year I bought the complete boxset for cheap and I'm looking forward to rewatching it all. I've seen random episodes over the years but i haven't watched it all properly since it was originally broadcast. Also, the book it is based on is incredible. The TV show is not an adaptation of the book, they are both their own things.

what i really enjoy is the prelude to the wire. i can see where david simon made his bones. for me, he had appeared out of nowhere like a comet in the sky. but as it turned out, he had a history

of all his prequels i had only seen "the corner" but that was more documentary than anything (with actors "reconstructing" real situations). not great drama, just sad business, so kinda meh in recollection. "informative" i guess
