BUMP

I want to start shooting on film and need recommendations for sub $100 35mm SLRs or other cameras. I'm not looking for anything super pro/serious, just something to play around with for a while.

I know how some of you like pictures of abandoned places, so I present pictures of the rec room of an abandoned/partial burned-out insane asylum. We were only able to get into two rooms, but hopefully I'll be able to get shots of the patients' rooms and other areas soon.

There is literally hundreds on eBay. Think about what you want it for as a rangefinder may possibly be a better option. I just paid $50au for a yashica gsn rangefinder in great condition. It is a fixed lens though. However there are many rangefinders with interchangeable lenses. The rf's are much lighter and more compact but still 35mm. If you want to do night stuff you will want something with a fast lens, f1.8 etc.

Slrs pretty much the same but bulkier. You will probably want something with metering if you are only just getting in to shooting film.

Thanks. I'm going to go out today and hit up pawn shops and the like, someone told me that ones around here have film SLRs for dirt cheap. I ordered a Holga for $29 that should be here today. I just kind of wanted to get into shooting film when I found out we actually still have a functioning film lab or two in the city.

First adventure out with the Holga. In the a section of town known as the "Old City". Fuji Pro 160S film. (The actual prints aren't as washed out as these scans make them seem.)
