I think it will be an adventure of sorts. We would be 1.5 hours away from Austin record stores and concerts, and 1.5 hours away from Dallas where my wife's brother and sister in law are relocating with their two kids. The position would play to all my wife's strengths and is the kind of thing where her salary will only go up and up and will include bonuses galore. It is a great opportunity for her and us, and I could work part time and paint/draw/write part time.

the nerves strike!

oh hell. you should have started with that! makes everything else irrelevant ha ha ha ha.

(i thought you were attached to your new yob. but fuck yobs.)

Rob Instigator 07.15.2015 02:01 PM

Not attached, as much as comfortable and appreciated. That is a rare thing, but life does not reward those who take no risks.

jesus christ, that sounds exactly like me (even the drug cocktail. yeesh.) it feels so embarrassing when everyone else seems to be alright but here i am convinced quite often that the world is ending for no real reason.

yoooo josh!

hurray!! congrats.

we too got a new place for september. lovely location and really great neighbors.

on further irrelevancy, per the thread:

we will NOT be taking the massive bed nor buying a new one-- instead we'll get quality camping mats as techno-shikibutons (tested them at REI last week). they're FANTASTIC. better than any bed i've ever slept in, even the $4K tempurpedics.

so this (thermarest luxurymap x-large):

becomes

or

add to it the advantage that when we travel we can take our beds with us, with sleeping bags in lieu of kakebuton--- we've had to sleep in other people's houses and hotels the past month and it's HORRIBLE. can't sleep for shit in soft/wobbly beds and the floor is too hard. modern closed-cell mats are gold.

this is best with the basecamp/car-camping mats, not the ultralight backpacking ones. 30" wide not 24" (two add up to a queen size).

home is where the bed is. so now it's everywhere.

schizophrenicroom 07.17.2015 01:27 PM

and congrats on your move. those look incredibly comfortable.

i'm gonna be on an air mattress for quite a bit, but a room's a room.

yesssss. thank you. going to be in the santa fe area but a more rural part. which is like what we have here (peace, quiet, hiking paths) but next to a really nice small city with good markets (UNESCO city of design + crafts & folk art --sweet).

the thermarest luxurymap mat is a fucken DREAM. it's at amazon for $100-$120 depending on size (we're getting the 30" wide). REI charges 20% more. oh sweet sweet sweet sleep. they have an even better one (mondo-something) but we want something easy to put away in the daytime.

the japanese stuff on top should be ultracomfy. here's how to wrap a kakebuton. looks a bit funny, like a medical gown with a hole in the back ha ha.
http://villagehiker.com/travel/trave...ese-futon.html

i think i'm posting this mainly for nik who is always looking for lifehacks. much like his mega-parka, a good mat would let him sleep anywhere.

a room is a room indeed, virginia woolf. i wish you the best with it.

i had to sleep on an air mattress on monday night and holy shit--it wobbled like a jello mold. madame !@#$%! left it for a couch and i deflated the thing because the hard floor was preferable to that fucking farce. i hope yours is a better one!

it's struck me as odd/funny that the community college here is named santa fe. had to re-read that once to disassociate. i like that about gainesville- the artsy scene here flies under the radar but there's a lot to love.

haven't tested out the mattress yet, but will when i get home. for $100 i might look into the thermarest.

have a date tonight with a guy i met in the library. he's a middle school teacher and quite lovely. wish me luck

santa fe makes a lot of money from art-- it's the 2nd biggest art market in america-- there are something like 60 galleries on canyon road. plus a lot of artists in the area. now this mostly isn't avant-garde shit but expensive paintings and sculptures for millionaires. also a lot of indian art-- ceramics, baskets, rugs, jewelry, etc. also LOTS of nonprofits. and environmental/new energy stuff.

if you might, check out the thermarest site right here: http://www.cascadedesigns.com/therm-...election-Guide

the 3 most comfy are the luxuryMAP, the mondo king, and the neo air dream. i don't like air tubes so the neo air dream is a no for me (but might work for you). mondo king seems the best, but hard to put away (you don't want to put it away in the daytime like we do, so this might be the best choice for you). the luxuryMAP i have tested and it is *DELICIOUS* and it rolls up faster than you can say "japan." it's also cheaper than the other two.

on the website (and amazon) check out the reviews by the people who use them on a daily basis. those are the key.

you can go to REI and test them in person-- they might not have all the right sizes/models but you can test the thing itself. at REI they might try to make you buy their own brand. i've tested it and it's decent, but not as good.

once you pick a model, buy it on amazon-- it's cheaper than the manufacturer list price.

the bedding is easy to outfit because it's small.

and yes! you and teachers ha ha ha... well, he's already lucky, and to you i wish that he's a good person.

Santa Fe was probably connected with the history of Spanish Florida

PS for a supergood value i just spotted their BASECAMP model which seems beloved by users

http://www.cascadedesigns.com/Therm-...seCamp/product

list price is $90 so i'd expect it at amazon for around $70.

actually comes in R, L, XL so 3 widths = 3 prices

but it's only 2in not 3in (or 4). still could work well.

--

$80 FOR THE XL http://www.amazon.com/gp/product//B008O6JG70/

(hey, i'm doing this research for myself too)

the BIGGEST luxurymap is exactly double @ $160

http://www.amazon.com/Thermarest-Lux.../dp/B008O6JH7Y

(the regular is only $90)
