curve rules. |
this band sucks.their only listenable albums are japanese whispers, disintegration, and 3 imaginary boys. but even those get boring very quickly.
|
All of their albums from '79-'92 are all worth listening to, sans the synthpop thing.
Go with The Head on the Door next. |

I guess I don't have the same definitions of 'sucks' and 'boring' then :D |
Dude The Cure is great I was the only kid in middle school listening to them. Pornography is my fav. then Disitegration, the Trilogy DVD is is Fentastic!!! listen to that shit loud!!! Boys don't cry is good as well & Mixed up contains some awesome remixes...
|
i don't hate the cure, i just think they suck. and i can even enjoy sucky bands every now and then (i enjoy morrissey, and i know he fucking sucks dick! -- no pun intended)... but man.. just listen to that song on 3 imaginary boys where robert tries his hardest to sound like a ranting mark e smith.. or every other song where he tries to be in gang of four, ranting away.. he sucks!
|
cure have been one of my favourite bands for a long, long time... Well before I was into SY or anything. Don't listen to anyone telling you to get Head On the Door - I have no idea why people like that album so much. It's kind of like if you like David Bowies Let's Dance if you can imagine that. If you're big into pornography too I wouldnt recomend that one next. Get 17 seconds I'd say.
|
the cure are my favourite band. get disintegration next. and look into the bsides. i've never known another band with bsides this good.
oh, and i met the cure a couple of weeks ago..hehe. wish is good for new fans. i think head on the door is overated and the top is underrated. |
disintegration, the last album i liked by them was bloodflowers, very underrated. the top is good too, not many singles but a good album.
still, i'm super sick of them; they are coming to mexico (three dates in some enormodome) i'm not going, i'm not into seeing wigged balloon bob smith sing the lovecats...i loathe that song so much. |
seventeen seconds and pornography are my favorite but youve got pornography i see. so get seventeen seconds. a forest is killer.
edit: i just realised how old this thread is |
I've never been big into them but I really like Standing on a Beach.

I love Lovecats (the song from that period I really hate is The walk). However I agree the way Robert is bloated now is a bit of a put-off, along with the Shecter endorsement (I want to see the Fenders back). |

Let's make love. |

thank goodness!!! Quote:
the walk, total new order rip off (that's something that irks me a bit, the cure were always ripping off other bands as they were becoming popular, only doing songs of their own in said style), but a fun song...remember the unplugged version? it always makes me laugh. yeah, that shecter signature model is hideous. |
The rumbling toms, simple bass lines, chorus drenched guitars, lyrics about death... isn't that the first few albums in a nutshell (minus the debut)? If I'm not in the right mood, those can really bum me out.
Johnny Marr (backintheday) made an interesting distinction between meloncholy and depression; meloncholy has a sweetness to it that depression doesn't. Smiths=meloncholy, early Cure=depression. 'how beautiful you are' off kiss me is a damn near perfect lyric. So sue me, I love Disintegration. There's more going on that on, say, Porno. D can have, like, three or four guitar parts going on at the same time, whereas the minimal music on the early stuff means that you better like the first 30 seconds of the song because it ain't changing much. The boxed set has a handfull of masterpieces. What's up with their newer stuff? The Cure, Bloodflowers, etc. Anyone get into those? The acoustic versions on the Best of? How did they made that boring? |
i like bloodflowers.
