Dammit, where do you get this info? I can't see an announcement on Lee's social freakin' media and I still don't know whether he will cross Perú's southern border. |

Thanks, Moshe. Come on, Lee, keep moving South...

Alright, the man has to come to Santiago now... ![]() |
Lee's show in Mexico City was so beautiful I'm still ecstatic about it. He performed a very long set of noise, drone, extended techniques... which included several passages of suspended guitar (besides the magnificent sounds he extracts from that through the use of effects pedals and percussion, I love so much the sense of wonder and even danger associated to the guitar swinging around)... Even so, a few of his songs ("Moroccan Mountains", "The Rising Tide", and "Thrown Over The Wall"), from his solo work found their way into this set which all in all ran seamlessly as a nifty piece of awesomeness which generally seemed to originate from improvisation.

Lee had other activities in this festival which I sadly missed. On Friday, he did a workshop on improvisation and extended techniques on electric guitar. Sonic Youth's re-creation of George Mačiūnas' " "Piano Piece #13" (for Nam June Paik)" was a reference point by Lee and a video was shown to participants, and then Lee performed a bit of noise, judging by some scattered videos on facemook. This event was of a private nature, while all the others were free access.
Yesterday, before the show took place, Lee participated in a presentation of his book, "Some Writings on Music and Musicians", and I was supposed to attend and had my pass actually, but happened to arrive about fifteen minutes late, and was told the room had been closed. Wandered around for a bit, found a merch table and picked up three of Lee's solo records, and some books at other stands, then secured my place dead front centre of the stage, and spend the time reading all the while waiting for the show. I was happy to be in front of Lee and have the guitar swing so close to me at times. I had the Sony PCM M-10 and a digital camera (decided to sneak 'em in even though the organizers suggested not to). I hope to upload the audio recording next weekend. Meanwhile here are a few more blurry pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Seconded. Absolutely bitchen posts. I'm still pissed as fuck at myself for missing Lee's performance here last December. |

Lee Ranaldo interviewed by Peruvian media. He speaks fondly about (more than) three favorite records, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Television, Circuit Des Yeux, and Rhys Chatham Guitar Trio.

I really need to get a better recording of "Guitar Trio" — the one I have is on Soul Jazz's 135 Grand Street New York 1979 CD and it sounds awful, like a vinyl with a MAJOR scratch on it (and no, it's not part of the performance ;)). |

I listened to this again and I have to admit I was way too harsh. That "click" (again, it sounds like it comes from vinyl... or maybe a tape?) can get distracting, but once you play this bad boy LOUD who cares, it fucking rocks. |

bumping with venue website - ticketfly has shit security, they got hacked recently, it is bullshit we have to use these half assed technologies that expose us to all this risk, just to buy a ticket. It is unfortunate, but I don't need to risk identity theft just to see some music. Its bullshit. Really why I rarely go see shows anymore and I think if more people thought about it, they would be more hesitant to expose themselves to identity theft simply to see some music. I never go to movies anymore since they started forcing you to register your seat in a database. Tyranny as pseudo-technology. |
