I liked him on Pete & Pete.

mikec 04.03.2007 12:04 AM

i heard the first single and knew it was going to be the suck. oh well, i'm seeing them live in a few days so hopefully the brilliance of their old shit will drown out the new stuff.

even it kinda sucked. better than the wierdness...but still sucked.

I beg to differ on that one. Zombie Birdhouse was a damn good record. Perfect mix of classic Igg with new wave tendencies and a bit of loungey smaltz. Cool era mix too, especially guitar wise. Wasn't even his last gasp, either, as the title track of the Repo Man soundtrack kicks ass too.

What I've heard of this new record though, reminds me if anything of Iggy's worthless '90s output. Hell, it's almost as bad as Alice Cooper's '90s output. Sad that he'd put the Stooges name on it.

hmm i was always curious about zombie birdhouse, should i give it a go? that white zombie tune is called black sunshine and is indeed amazing, i'm not even ashamed to say it. god i love white zombie. shit. just noticed how zombie themed this post is. zombies are cool.

If you like other albums from the same period such as Lust for Life and Soldier, then you will probably like Zombie Birdhouse as well. It's definitely Iggy Pop and not Iggy Stooge, but I think he'd really reinvented himself rather well at the time.

Well, I've finally listened to this, and it in no way sucks.

Which is a lot more than I can say for this message board.

"The Weirdness" is a terrible record, full stop.

hehe, that's what my brother does.

It makes me sad that everyone is dissing Iggy, especially since i just saw him and the Stooges at the Electric Factory in Phil the other night, and it was fantastic! So much charisma and aura. Now i truly know why he was such a legend. His performances. I think Iggy just does what he wants. He wanted to do something with his old pals.

fugazifan 04.15.2007 09:16 PM

not to be redundant, but heres a review that i wrote for it (click on the stooges link...)
www.staticandfeedback.com
(ithink it was a kick ass record)

ricechex 04.15.2007 10:35 PM

i enjoyed the interview, fugazifan. thanks. while i'm not a big fan of the Weirdness, there are still a few things on it. I like Trollin, of course. But people shouldn't compare their new record with the greatness of 1970. that's 37 years!

auto-aim 04.15.2007 10:47 PM

I haven't listened to it and I dont want it... It's like when you get another Crow sequel or something. But I'll disagree with the guy who said Beyond was the worst album this year - I'll agree that its a little of a dissapointment as it treads no new ground or whatever but theres still some really fucking good songs on there... i mean they are one of those bands to me that even if they're bad thats still great compared to most other bands

atari 2600 04.15.2007 11:46 PM

Beyond is good. The Weirdness is good.

I don't know which one is better, I suppose whichever one you're listening to the most...

Each have standout songs, but the filler isn't repulsive or anything.
And despite what you might infer from the crap you read here, neither are tepid albums, all thing considered.

On the other hand, for myself personally, neither are going to be something I'll be going back to a whole lot.
(I've listened to each once.) With that in mind, yeah, I would go see the show probably before buying these, but, ultimately, they are still worth getting.

But, again, they are not bad by any means. I enjoyed them each all the way through. If I wasn't so spoiled with (so much) music, I'm sure I would listen to them more.

That's not to say that I'm so spoiled, however, that don't appreciate that both these artists have released worthwhile new ones after a long hiatus. I think it's great.

Here's their set from a week or two ago in DC in case you missed it.....I wanted to go, but it sold out fast as hell.

Nothing has ever stopped Iggy being worth seeing live. Not a bad record, not a raging drug habit, not a gang of violent Hell's Angels, NOTHING.

It doesn't matter if The Weirdness is shit. Most of Iggy's records are shit. (And that's coming from someone who loves him madly.) Iggy's legacy is and will always be as a live performer. It's just a different game. That ANY of his energy as a live act was EVER caught on record (Funhouse, Raw Power, etc) is a fucking miracle.

PAULYBEE2656 04.16.2007 02:57 PM

ok, having started this thread on one listen a week ago. ive stuck the wierdness int th car and forced myself to listen to it again. and no, it aint no fun house but i suppose thats not the point. i dont think its a great album but then again i was a bit harsh to dismiss it on one listen.
as regards seeing iggy live. totally agree. regardless of the wierdness level of quality, iggy must be seen in the flesh (and bone). he is a walking legend to some degree...... gonna see em again at the electric picnic and looking forward to it......

intresting opinions on this album...

PAULYBEE2656 04.16.2007 02:58 PM
