Interesting poll. I voted for a cave....that would be insane.
pub, keep it small.
I would've said my house but my lame Dad would tell me to switch off that awful noise before the first song was through. So I would say in a cave in the middle of a winter's night huddled in a circle with a load of SY-obsessed strangers.
I think the train station would be interesting. More like a subway station though. Remember the video for pavement's "rattled by the rush" (i think it was)? That would be cool.
I voted house, but cave, forest, and concert hall would be great. They are a good band for playing outdoors.
Say! I like Sonic Youth and Can! I do! I like them Sam I Am. And i would eat them In boat and with a goat andin the rain and on a train and in a car and in a tree. They are so good, so good you see! So i will eat them in a box, with a fox and in a ouse and with a mouse and i will eat them here or there and i will eat them anywhere. I do so like Sonic Youth and Can! Thank you! Thank you! Sam I Am.............. |
In my house a privite concert for only me. Sense i have no freinds
well I voted for a concert hall; a cave or other places like that would be great for some solo side project.
someone know where the most strage place they have played? |
i voted for the train station. it would add an extra energy and white noise to the mix.
hahha a train station sounds very strange!
Cave it is then. I'll have a word with the band and sort it out. How about Saturday?
 |
The Orange Peel was an interesting venue to have an SY show in. (August 20, 2004). It only holds about 500 or so, give or take. But that's why it was interesting. It was a very personal show. It felt like the audience was at a rehersal, more than at a concert. As it were, that was my first time seeing them, so seeing them at Bonnaroo this June is going to be wierd for me. But, I still can't wait. I voted club by the way.
Small is definitely superior when it comes to venues The interaction between artist and crowd seems more real or tangible, or something.
Exactly right Hip Priest. I don't know why, but it felt like we were SY's closest friends, & they were putting on small show just for us. But, they did have a pretty good visual show w/ it.
It's great that they still got to tiny places, like in that Sleepin Arouund video, that looks really small.
And small venues don't encourage the kind of 'HEY DETROIT I CAN'T HEAR YOU, MAKE SOME NOISE!' type theatrics of other bands. WHy is it that the more thousand s of fans are at a venue, the harderit apparantly is for the bandto hear any cheering? |
"bad moon rising" autumn show in the forest :) ehm :D
Hip Priest:
I hear ya'. There was alot of that at the NIN concert I just saw. & when Trent was saying all this stuff about our city, I got a little annoyed at that. Knoxville Civic is usually used for hockey games, so it's somewhat a large venue. Don't get me wrong, I loved the show, I just could have a done w/out that. |
Yeah. My experience of really small venues too is that often bands will just walk off stage at the end and come and chat with the people there. It's nice, it's like thee band feel safer. That depends on the audience make-up too of course, but it' nice to be able to just talk to people.
I almost didn't get to see SY. It was an out of state show for me, so when I got to the show, when they were opening the doors & taking tickets & ID, I handed the event staff my TN. ID, & they said they didn't take out of state ID. I almost died right there. But, after some convincing, they let me in, & I saw the best show of my life.
G/A right up front, w/ Kim right in front of me. |

The most strange place would probably be the desert, as featured on the Gila Monster Jamboree video. Or Brighton Beach, I suppose. |
A cave would probably be the coolest, but in the spirit of reality I would love to see them play in a small club. Like Hip Priest was saying, you have a good chance to talk with them and hang out. But if gigs in caves were a feasible situation, then I would definetly hop on the wagon.
