How does reading The Economist or The Financial Times make someone right wing? Explain this nonsense, if you can.
|
I know MacroDollar in real life, he's one of my friends, he's also an active green party member and politics student. The words 'Economist' and 'Financial' tend to evoke the same response as uttering to fatal words 'Major Label' or 'The Velvets Suck' to most of the people on this board.
Of course the Velvets don't suck and I want Nico's Babies. Although such ideas do give a necrophillic dimension to indie fandom that I dont wish to explore. |
Let's just hope that your mate isn't studying at the Alice In Wonderland School Of Politics.

I would love to study at Wonderland University, it sounds like my kinda place. He's in Exeter University. His knowledge of Politics is incredable, its just he's a dedicated born-again green. Hes the drummer in my band too. Awesome Drummer. |
I was thinking as I was wandering past the local newsagents today "I should start getting the Independent delivered..."
Well done, Tony. |

Surely reading such publications that talk about markets as if nothing else matters would imply that someone would tend to be of the neoliberal extraction? Hopefully you can forgive me for branding opposition to the minimum wage as right wing. I looked at the Independent today, they are carrying on the war against Tony. It's quite entertaining. |

I purchased it today. The extended letters page(s) made quite good reading. Lots of congratulations. |
What would you do if your own newspaper was condemned with no mention on the Mirror et al?

Quote:
They are publications that talk SPECIFICALLY about economical trends. Any politician with some sense and devoted to their own cause would read them or keep an eye on what's written on them, regardless of the unfairness of those economical trends themselves. And in any case, left wing or right wing are both useless descriptions of a political stance, and in fact the line between them is ever so blured by the day. |
I agree with you prokie on the fact thar right wing and left wing lines are being blured.

How does that song go?

I suppose what macrodollar is objecting to is the suggestion that all newspapers that are not economic and business papers are sensationist. If T&B is merely suggesting the style of journalism is preferable (which looking back I think he is) thats all well and good. Although papers that focus on specific news like business are not really what we are discussing and as far as I can see The Guardian and The Independant are the best papers in the Uk.
