Just got finished watching Jarmusch's Dead Man. It was great, very laid back and really enjoyable although maybe not for everyone. I loved the way the scenes were so short and every couple of minutes the focus changes from depp to the guns for hire. The guy who played "Nobody" was brilliant and the Neil Young score was perfect for the action

you don't know anything about rock n' roll.

last one i saw in theaters was a history of violence, good for killing time but not a good movie in my opinion.

last one i saw on tv...must have been when they played both addams family movies.

i kinda watched saving silverman last night but fell asleep very early into it

Watched Full Metal Jacket last night. I thought it was really good, but not as good as my expectations were set.
By the way, anyone want to reccomend me another Kubrik film?

In my opinion the most highly recommended are:"A Clockwork Orange", "2001: A Space Odyssey", "The shining", maybe "Eyes Wide Shut"

nomadicfollower 05.01.2006 03:53 PM

I've seen The Shining and parts of A Clockwork Orange. I'll check out the other ones when I have a chance.

sonikold 05.01.2006 03:55 PM

Re: Computer genrated special effects and not liking any movie with them, specifically King Kong. I take it you dont like animation in any form then cause thats essentially what it is. CG is a tool it can be used well or poorly, in LOTR and King Kong its pretty well done. Fair enough if you dont like them, every one's entitled to their own opinion, but you are wrong cause those films rock like cooling magma.

Last movies I saw were

Slither (at the cinema) - very good, really funny and gooey, a bit like Tremors and Gremlins (not as good as either but then very few things are)

13 - Really good, best to watch without knowing the plot.

Lord of War - Mmmkay, has no plot and feels like a two hour introduction to another film that never starts but there are some funny bits.

RE Kubrick

The Shinings great, I never saw Eyes Wide Shut or Space Oddysey, but Clockwork Orange was disappointing.

The Killing's really good as well, its one of his first, a black and white heist gone wrong flick.

bytheriver 05.01.2006 06:28 PM

I do prefer animatronics and Savini style special effects, but if you dont notice the CG I have no problem with it.

The recent Star Wars films had waaaay too much CG, but Spiderman needed it, all depends on the film.

And Sin City was all CG but it was ace.

sonikold 05.01.2006 06:38 PM

CG still looks fake as fuck... c'mon!

it's a tool, but an overused tool that no one knows how to use. animation and special effects can be breathtaking, CGI doesn't give me any emotion. i thought the LOTR movies were one of the only times it has worked very well. people depend on it waaay too much.

johnnywinternoshow 05.01.2006 07:38 PM

hey bytheriver, was it 13 (Tzameti) that you saw? I read a review of it today and thought it sounded good

samantha. 05.02.2006 01:03 AM

Domino. I didn't like it. Keira Knightley played the main character. Ew.
