"You must spread more Benjamins around before giving the big holla to the man like !@$%!. Word is bond".
|
benjamins is so 1998. you might as well have said 'duckets'
|
I know, val-holla-ing. My street talk is so, you know, uncool daddio. Your "vgstd" thing has left me totally bamboozled.
|
it's vincent gallo stds is all.
and i say daddyo, but it's more of a revival of an awesome term. benjamins is so....puff daddy. |
I should have thought about the wackness of the Diddy before using "benjamins".
Where did you meet Chloe S - was it at some sort of film/art event? |
gang gang dance played at a bar in town last weekend and she was there. she also came into the vintage clothing store that's the sister store to the vintage furniture store in town. my girlfriend also brought her food out.

Cool stuff. All this talk of Ms Sevigny has reminded me to go watch "Zodiac" at some point.
|
What's with the "he's ok" !@#$%!? Please explain. I wouldn't necessarily say he's genius, but you can't deny that he hasn't done interesting stuff? I've enjoyed all of his film up until now.
|
I do love Harmony Korine's work. Im really looking forward to this.
|
glad to see diego luna is in the movie

yeah, he's ok means he's ok. sorta. see, i found julian donkey boy unfuckingwatchable. i don't care if werner herzog is in it. a stupid fucking boring sleeper. there, i've said it. i tried watching it when i was going up the "dogma" films, 1,2,3... donkey ass is 5 right? or something. anyway i don't give a shit. gummo was cool. but it was cool mostly because of an excellent sountrack. the ugly kid was cool too. but the story meh. see the thing with korine is this gimmick that it's easy to decipher: take a bunch of freaky character and situations and film them in a quasi-documentary style. you know, for "realism". great. "a day in the life of a white trash family". ok... but the man is a heartless motherfucker. i'm not speaking about his personal life, for wich i couldn't give 2 fucks, but about his "artistic vision", whatever you wanna call it. kids-- i detested the screenplay as well. same semi-documentary style. my proGlem here is that, while i admit that he is not without merit, he gets excessively praised because, i dont know why, "my life is like it", you know? kinda like that shit movie "garden state" where every fucke "identifies" with that crap movie. well har kor is not so terrible, he is more interesting, sure, more indie, whatever, but as i was saying before he comes across as a cynical, heartless fuck. now im not saying the universe is all peachy & things should come out right in the end, no. but documenting a fictional freak show isn't my idea of a good screenplay. now, im saying this strictly about gummo. if we're going to compare vaguely similar stories, george washington >> gummo, in my book. |
I think that his films are probably more enjoyable to foreign viewers. Gummo being a good example of that.
It shows something that we're not very familiar with overseas, when it comes to the setting and characters in a town such as Xenia, Ohio. Critics say that his films have more style than substance, which is true in a way. I can understand your point of view though. |

I thought that it stood for very good stds, or vegetarian stds. They're called stis now, and you can get one of your choice from any loose-moralled person near you. |

You're right in general about my "flowery hippie-like names = argh" view, but funnily enough I actually like the name Harmony Korine - it sounds good. |
I totally agree that Harmony Korine is a nice name. As for his movies, I watched them all and more or less liked them, but someohow with all of them I can only memorize a few scenes and not pay that much attention to the rest of the movie. It's normally a sign that even though I wasn't offended by the movie, I wasn't particularly touched by it either.
|
I always said if I had a child I would call it Harmony (boy or girl)
|
I've seen Gummo and JDB. Gummo is really like a certain part of where I live about 25 miniutes away, I was just over there today (sorda got fooled into it) and I was thinking it's just like Gummo. The stories, ugly ass kids riding up and down the road on bikes. Pretty sure there are some glue sniffers also, mostly meth instead of glue. Anyway, I find his movies to be entertaining but not great, the scene in Gummo with the Albino woman with the pimped out car is funny and I like the music in it. He seems to be a bit full of himself to in the commentary though.

Did you check that the penis is there and in working order? Take the pants off, young man. I'll have a look. |
went to see this last night. i think i hated it. i wouldn't even have known it was a Korine film... it was just so... straight... also, Herzog was disappointing, seemed like a parody of his role in Julien Donkey-Boy..
I was really looking forward to this as well, his other two films being among my favourites of all time.. biggest cultural disappointment since hearing Rather Ripped for me |
