I think that it's important to say it like you mean it.
The right tone of voice should set things straight.

By the way my usual tactic is to ignore them and if that doesn't work then I tell them I'm not interested. This doesn't work too well but it's the most effective method I've tried. People have told me it's not good to ignore people cause it might make them angry but I've tried replying in a polite way and they take that as an opportunity to continue with bothering me. Sometimes I wish I could just vaporize people or something, now that would be effective!

Im the same. its a big reason why I dont like traveling on PT alone.

Kina 01.31.2008 05:39 PM

yeah I try to avoid it too, it usually happens at times when there aren't many people around so I try to only travel in peak times or have someone with me, so it doesn't happen to me as much now as when I was at uni cause then I had to constantly be travelling at odd times on my own to go to uni and back

yep. if you want no human contact then dont bathe. also, grow a mustache.

Kina 01.31.2008 06:07 PM

hehe yeah sometimes when I go out in winter I wear an identity hiding outfit complete with hoodie, scarf and beanie while walking around so that I had the effect of a walking ball of cotton which works pretty well, except once when I did that my friends and I stopped at McDonalds to get some snacks (only place open at the wee hours) and when I walked in some bloke said to me "why are you hiding yourself under all those clothes? A pretty girl like you should have feminine clothes on" I told him it's so that I wouldn't get bothered by sleazy strangers and he looked grouchy and walked off

Norma J 01.31.2008 06:38 PM

Dark sunglasses and tattoos kinda makes me avoid that. Although sometimes this can have the opposite effect and people wanna talk about their tattoos or potential ink or anything else they want to divulge, when really I don't care. Of course, though, I'm always polite but vague.

I like when old people talk to me, though. Always comforting in a waiting room or whenever, actually.

we are so going to corrupt you here.

this is how you do it:
  • look them straight in the eye.
  • slowly pronounce yr words so there is no mistake.
  • fuck.
  • awf.
  • look forward again and don't bother looking back.
please feel free to practice on the board.

here's a live demonstration:

large red text and emoticons have their place, but I prefer the understated normal size.

my only further suggestion would be to use a period (to enforce the finality).

welcome to the dark side, we've had a seat waiting for.

Kina 01.31.2008 07:38 PM

speaking of the dark side, I should just walk around in a darth vader costume, I remember I was in HMV once and there was someone dressed up as him in the store to promote some star wars thing, maybe the computer game or whatever, but people were seriously avoiding him as he walked along the aisles

I hate catching the train home from school, I have to catch it into the city and then change lines and catch it back out from the city. Its like 2 hours of potential annoyance. Are you small framed? I am and that bothers me even more.. I feel like they pick me for this reason because I couldnt bash them in the forehead or I look less likely to be angry about it. uhgh.

As long as they dont get off at the same stop as me though, its not too bad. Then I get SUPER scared.. dont follow me home / around while I walk ffs. creepy randoms.

no one bothers me
but if someone had the balls to do so i would not hesitate to
a) get up and move
b) complain loudly
c) kick them in the shin

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 01.31.2008 10:06 PM

My friend, only 18 years old was at a gas station with another fried of mine. Then the clerk who he said looks to be 50 years old came right out and said if she was his age that she'd fuck him. Pretty fucked.

I once was at a park doing parkour and an old man came along and started talking to me, it was a great day so I didn't mind. We ended up talking for atleast an hour or two. It was really interesting hearing about his life and what he had done. His name began with a K, can't remember.
