avant garde and noise is not a new phenomenon, and know the velvets didnt come from avant noise, but they sure as hell used it, (heroin, sister ray, etc..), and nihilist spasm band, the worlds first real noise band came out in the 1960s. cage and philip class and morricone and reich are all avant garde, so i dont know what youre trying to say or prove, sorry. all this over agreeing with you that pil is awesome and noisy at times, fuck.

splintered
sunroof!
hototogisu
the a band
flower corsano duo
the heads

noisey bands from britain who don't strictly fall in to the category of noise rock but are probably enjoyable to people of such inclinations:
Moss
Vibracathedral Orchestra
Discharge
Rudimentary Peni
The Shadow Ring
Add N to X (not the last couple of albums though)
Emit
Taint
Benighted Leams
electric wizard

Phlegmscope 03.22.2008 08:04 PM

Fudge Tunnel
Godflesh
Penthouse (aka 50tons of black terror)
Flying Saucer Attack and th faith healers at their noisiest could fit somewhere between shoegaze and noise-rock.

I really can't be arsed with this. I'll only say that if you consider Morricone to be avantgarde you need to have your head checked.

Toilet & Bowels 03.23.2008 07:44 AM

Two things:

What do Morricone, Philip Glass & Steve Reich have to do with british noise-rock?

Please don't use the words "Avant Rock", "Avant Noise", or the term "Avant Garde" in relation to rock music, ever again.

sarramkrop 03.23.2008 07:46 AM

My thoughts, exactly.

This Is Not Here 03.23.2008 07:56 AM

Yeah, everytime I do actually want you guys to name-drop you get distracted by shiney objects. When I next return to this thread I expect to have the next few years' music purchases on a plate people! Perform!!!

But on a serious note, thanks for the suggestions so far, I've had a look at all of them, probably PRE, Giddy Motors, Part Chimp and Fuck Buttons are closer to what I'd like to hear. Emphasis on punky noise-rock, please don't direct me to the realm of the sheer noise. If you guys have got any suggestions of U.S. bands now, much appreciated...

This Is Not Here 03.23.2008 07:59 AM

oh and Sarramkrop i put some more images up on Post Yr Art Or Die, would like your opinion...

sarramkrop 03.23.2008 08:20 AM

Done. Part Chimp are that band on the Mogwai record label, aren't they? I think that I have a cd of theirs somewhere.

sarramkrop 03.23.2008 08:34 AM

Is it really hard to restrain yourself from calling your band a noise project? It sounds kind of wrong. That's what you get when you start to think that all music is math. IT.IS.NOT. W.H.O.O. H.O.O.!!

Part Chimp are made up of former members of Ligament, who were a better band, in my opinion.

Also, there's a band called Bob Tilton who did noisey punky stuff.

sarramkrop 03.23.2008 09:44 AM

I didn't know that, I like Ligament a lot. I have a Bob Tilton track on one of the Sonic Mook Experiment compilations, I will give it another listen.

sarramkrop 03.23.2008 09:46 AM

Telstar Ponies

batreleaser 03.23.2008 11:10 AM

nice how you mention only one of the artists ive mentioned

pokkeherrie 03.23.2008 12:29 PM

Hototogisu and Flower/Corsano are just as British as they are American, although they play live mostly in the UK I suppose.
